With there being quite a bit of negativity surrounding the Belgian football currently, I was wondering what the reaction to Thomas Buffel's return to Belgium is? Is there an air of optimism that a current international has chosen to return home?

I know he's been injured and lost form quite a bit in recent seasons, but has Buffel officially retired from the Rode Duivels? I've read conflicting reports.

No he hasn't retired from the national team. The reason he hasn't been called up in 2 years is because he wasn't getting any playing time in Scotland.

He said in an interview he wants to play well at Cercle so he can return to the Rode Duivels as soon as possible.

Thanks for the update Gorando. I hope Thomas manages to find form at Cercle and subsequently for the Rode Duivels. No better time than in the 2010 Qualifiers! :)
