Loss of form due to lack of play time is not permanent, but it's enough for teams to lose interest in the player unless he's known to be awesome when in form. Which is not the case with JS.
I don't wanna see him on loan. I want him to stay with the first team even if he's riding the bench and getting cup matches. He's got a fan following and seemingly liked by the rest of the squad. Hope he keeps building on this.
Eggestein just played a full tournament for German U-21. No doubt they will not have a full preseason now. My crystal ball says that will have no effect on his place in the squad. Likewise, Josh missing the first week of camp or whatever for the Gold Cup wouldn't make a difference either if he was central to Werder's plans. He just isn't, obviously.
That's not how it works. Pre-season began June 30. The GC final is July 7... players, traditionally, don't hop on a plane after a summer of international duty and are participating in pre-season the day after the international tournament final. Usually, the players then get their real summer vacation. Delaying their involvement another two weeks or so. The Eggestein brothers very well might not have their status with the squad affected. They are also in a different situation from Sargent. Obviously, there is no hard-fast rule with regards to these matters. I think it behooves a young player trying to break into the team to be there early and for all of pre-season. Coming in 3 weeks late is not ideal.
Absolutely correct. FIFA has very clear and strict rules for this and those rules are strictly enforced. Even if Sarge wanted to start training, Werder would nix it immediately.
Josh Sargent joins Werder training for the first time this summer 👍👍 https://t.co/OkghOD0KR7— Yanks Abroad (@usmnt_abroad) July 2, 2019
I know this is for club discussion, but... I really need Sargent to have a great year, because watching Zardes as the US #9 makes me want to claw my eyes out, and I need that to not be a thing anymore. So, here's to hoping he kills it for Werder. Their first friendly is July 7 against Karlsruhe, first "competitive" match is in the cup against SV Atlas Delmenhorst (fifth-tier club, top-tier name) on August 10.
i thought his fitness seemed bizarrely poor all last season. hopefully he is really preparing this offseason and hits the ground running
Bremen played 2 friendlies today. The more 1st team played the 1st in a 1-0 win (no Sargent but some youngsters present) vs an Austrian Bundesliga club and the 2nd one with Sargent was the kids one where they lost 3-0 to 2BL club Karlsruher. Both games were 50 min only. Looks like Sargent was involved in a goal deemed offside.
Kohfeldt had some nice things to say about our boy yesterday: https://www.bundesliga.com/en/bunde...werder-bremen-coach-florian-kohfeldt-usa-5512
Yikes. When a coach starts talking about how "fit" a player is, it is because he doesn't have anything better to say.
Good that he's buckled down. The set back was/is normal for 99.9% of players but was probably new for him. All he has to do now is perform
Also in the context of the entire article, which focused on pointing out that Josh took advantage of his Gold Cup exclusion instead of sitting around pouting.
