it's kinda a knock on the youngsters if they cant convince the coach during trainings that they are a better option than a 40 year old vet.

as a poster previously mentioned, he's kind of a LEGEND. It's difficult for some to be objective.

he's a 1BL legend more than that Pizarro's whole Germany career not counting that 1 season in Koln is either Bayern or Bremen.

also I'm sure not everyone knows this but he's also Bremen's all time top scorer.

Here is Werder’s line up for today’s friendly against Papenburg:

Beijmo, Harnick, Langkamp, Sargent, J Eggestein, Ilia Gruev, Phillip, Mbom, M Eggestein, Beste, Pavlenko.

    German’s do love their Fußball.

Was the goal his first touch of the game? That’d be awesome if he pulled that off again.

For having the nerve to score, Bremen staff are going to buy another 5 forwards this offseason. That’ll teach Sargent not to pull crap like this again.

Is this a fundraiser or something? I mean, I get playing the odd friendly, but 6th division? That's like Tiger Wood playing some fat old cheating duffer right after a bunch of PGA rounds.

One of the YA German teams played a Bezirksliga team earlier this season. I think they were 8th tier.

Those games help the little clubs. It's a big deal having a BuLi team visit, tickets are sold to people coming from the nearby towns even.

The Dutch do this a lot preseason - it gets folks out to the little local clubs and gives the players a bit of a warm-up, but it seems a little less useful after a full season of play. But why not - weather's nice in much of Germany this time of year.

So you think the coach is giving him playing time out of pure nostalgia?

No, but I am saying it might be hard to get a fair shake for a newbie unless you're clearly WORLD-CLASS.

Probably far better than 5/6 matches with random foreign teams during pre-season.

no doubt he is a legend...I would be surprised if he gets as much playing time next season but who knows.

A lot of people in Peru were expecting him to potentially have his international farewell at this years Copa America. However he was left out of the 40 player preliminary list. Prior to the wc the peruvian coach said he essentially needed players to be capable of 90-120 minutes. He did not name Claudio, but reading between the lines he was talking about Pizarro.

How's he thought of there? I remember having read he got some flak for under-performing for the NT. Probably a tad unfair as they expected him to carry them on his back (in his peak).

probably the most divisive peruvian footballer of all times. He is either hated or loved...no in between.

His haters blame him for not qualifying Peru to a wc.

His fans emphasize that the teams he played in were poor and he was one of a handfull of peruvians who rose above mediocrity.

    It's a touchy subject.

Doesn't he also have a rep as a "pecho frío" --a guy who doesn't perform as well with his NT?

Full match highlights against powerhouse SC Papenburg:

Can’t tell if he scored on his first touch since this highlight real omits the first 11 seconds of the game. But, it could have been! Wouldn’t that be like a world record or something? Youngest player ever to score on his first touch in two games in a single season? LOL

Btw, in this post: “he” != “Pizarro”

some reports are saying Ausgburg's Gregoritsch is a candidate to replace Kruse for Bremen. That he's a candidate could mean others and that they might get someone else.
