I thought it was time for a thread that was a little less focused on the dramatically increasing numbers of aspirants for the White House, on both sides of the aisle, and one looking more to the actual election. So... Florida just got a heck of a lot more interesting: The Florida Supreme Court has ruled that 8 of the state's 29 congressional districts must be redrawn. This is very dicey and is going to throw the state out of whack. http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...-the-florida-supreme-court/?tid=hp_mm&hpid=z3 Meet the state's 5th District: Florida has 100 days to hold a special session to redraw the districts. This is gonna be interesting.

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/02/us/small-pool-of-rich-donors-dominates-election-giving.html Fewer than four hundred families are responsible for almost half the money raised in the 2016 presidential campaign, a concentration of political donors that is unprecedented in the modern era. The vast majority of the $388 million backing presidential candidates this year is being channeled to groups that can accept unlimited contributions in support of candidates from almost any source. The speed with which such “super PACs” can raise money — sometimes bringing in tens of millions of dollars from a few businesses or individuals in a matter of days — has allowed them to build enormous campaign war chests in a fraction of the time that it would take the candidates, who are restricted in how much they can accept from a single donor. /quote Thanks SCOTUS!
A few families in each contry tend to dominate everything in that country. I think it is like 20 or 30 in Korea.
But how many countries are there where anyone, even Kenyan's, can aspire to be President? HAIL GRIMES!
The Texas Voter ID law is ruled a breach of the Voting Rights Act by US Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/08/06/u...s-id-law-broke-us-voting-rights-act.html?_r=0 But...
I've long thought it an act of cowardice to run for two positions at the same time. Apparently some rules maker in the Kentucky GOP made it harder for candidates to do that, because Rand Paul is prevented from running in the state's senatorial primary and presidential primary on the same day. Now, Paul wants the state to move the primary and create a caucus two months later so he can run for both, but the Kentucky GOP wants him to pay for the switch. And given that the Paul campaign is hurting for money, the switch ain't likely to happen. http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slat...blem_state_gop_has_second_thoughts_about.html Imagine that, Paul would have to choose how he can better "serve" Kentucky's citizens...
Hey!! Does this mean that my Alison has another shot? I really need the lot of you to start HAILING with a fervor the likes that have never been seen. As soon as my SS check comes in I'm sending another 10 bucks to get her PAC over the top!! HAIL GRIMES!!
For those of youse hoo missed the great debate! This video of kids reenacting the GOP debate is pretty great
I'm betting that handlers will make sure their candidate doesn't go down on a corn dog this time around.
Libertarians, read and weep... http://www.thedailybeast.com/articl...ntial-candidate-deez-nuts-does-not-exist.html Deez Nuts, the Independent candidate from Iowa, is polling at 9 percent in North Carolina for President of the United States. Sadly, Deez Nuts does not appear to exist. But Brady Olson does. “When I heard about the Limberbutt McCubbins story, I realized I could,” Olson tells The Daily Beast. Brady Olson is 15 years old. He filed to run for the President of the United States with the FEC on July 26 as Deez Nuts. /quote
Hillary still leads against all GOP, but Trump has narrowed the gap. http://www.cnn.com/2015/08/19/politics/2016-poll-hillary-clinton-joe-biden-bernie-sanders/index.html
Well, the first stab at redistricting went nowhere with the Republican Senate and Republican House unable to agree on a final plan. So now a judge gets to redraw the boundaries. http://www.npr.org/sections/itsallp...nal-maps-after-legislature-fails-to-reach-dea The maps don't look that different to me. You'd think the party would work together to get this sorted out rather than have it fall back to a wildcard judge.

PS....I'm reminded of the Irish lads throwing their caps over the wall and clambering after them. Be assured...there will be walls....big ones...to accommodate those who make mock!
