what struck me was how well everything seemed to be under control. those chappies know what they be doing.
The riders know how to handle it, it's outside influence that can do you in. Many, many....Many years ago I was in with a group coming down a Welsh mountain road at speed, when a guy in front opened his car door....Bamm! Chaos, bikes and bodies all over. Broken arms in front, Lots of skin on the road. I was in mid pack and I still have the scar where a wheel spoke ran up under the skin alongside my shinbone. Joyous memories.
Just about to post the same thing. Weird. Mono. But as an elite cyclist, you probably need to shut down for a long time to get that thing out of you.
I agree. Unfortunately, sponsors probably don't see it that way. Same with Haussler and all his injuries from a few years ago. He should have taken a year or so off to heal properly.
http://www.cyclingnews.com/features/opinion-the-commercial-challenges-for-pro-cycling Interesting opinion piece on the Cycling and the money issues.
Few things -Jens Voigt retires after the USA Pro Challenge -Edvald B-H is leaving Sky. -Voeckler was hit by a car, suspected broken collarbone -Phinney's rehab is going well Speaking of Phinney...look at those scars.
dat voeckler... he'll do anything to get europcar exposure . he's a dream member for a team and its sponsors: a real baroudeur. french coverage might exaggerate the effect but he's always on the lookout for ways to get onscreen and on ticker. and everyone likes him (except a few who hate him, which is just as good), even if they don't know why!
Surprised nobody posted this yet. Yesterday Slipstream Sports (the management behind Garmin-SHARP) announced that their new sponsor is Cannondale. Called a "marriage" between the current Garmin and Cannondale teams in 2015 they will meld into 1. Slipstream Sports will manage the team with Slipstream's Doug Eliis being the primary shareholder and Vaughters running the team. The main sponsor will be Cannondale and they will get two seats on Slipstream's board. All riders with a 2015 contract with Cannondale (8 riders) will be honored with the new team, assuming their biological passports meet the Slipstream standards. There are also enough spots for all Garmin riders with a 2015 contract to stay with the team as well. Garmin will continue as a non-title sponsor at this point. Currently the team will be known as Team Cannondale, but there is the option of signing a new name sponsor to be X-Cannondale or Cannondale-X and talks are ongoing, including with Garmin. The team will be American registered, English speaking, with the business based in Boulder, CO and the riders primarily based in Girona (that's the current Garmin setup). The team will keep the green of Cannondale and the argyle of Garmin for colors/patterns.
Igor Decraene has apparently died. For those of you who don't know him, he was deemed perhaps the brightest young prospect of Belgian cycling and he was the reigning Juniors (U19) TT champion. Such an incredibly sad bit of news.
