Alright fellas here's the first one I've recieved...all through a friend of a friend...next one should come sometime next week...needless to say, many memories flood back and glad to finally have it...
I was looking through Getty Images photos & they do have a photo of RapidMan from 6/30/96, unfortunately it is a shot from the front giving no view of what his back looks like.
I've seen that image, and the date is there (June '96), but I still don't think that's the one I'm looking for. I thought the really weird one was slightly greenish with a different face.
The figure in that picture is wearing a cape. I think the cape has the fish and rapids on it. We will never know, however. This is a mystery like the disappearance of Amelia Earhart.
I have the same shirt. I still wear it to games every now and then. Considering it's 18 years old, it's in pretty good shape
Wouldn't it be something if the Rapids were just a front for a US counterintelligence operation? We might know the real reason Matador won't be coming back. It was getting too real.
Balboa is out at the tailgate doing an interview for the C38 podcast. He was just asked about the return of Rapidman and said he was all for it as long as he wasn't wearing that scary cape with the dead fish on it. So there's official(?) confirmation that it did exist.
I have the original United T-Shirt that shows the original eagle given to the first fan event for selecting ST seats at RFK. It is signed by the entire team (prior to their first game) and by some major names in MLS at the time (e.g., Alan Rothenberg) and the USSF (Sunil Gulati). As you point out the "real name" of the team is Washington DC United not just DC United.
I don't know if anyone in this thread is still here (like @song219 ) but I was reminded after seeing this tweet tonight that the Rapids showed their first ever home opener on their website last Saturday at right at the beginning you got a glimpse of the original Rapidman with the cape. RapidMan crowdsurfing in '97 is the most important #TBT you'll see today.#Rapids96 | @MLS pic.twitter.com/9JKY6ufYXN— Colorado Rapids (@ColoradoRapids) April 3, 2020
