Mussolini's didn't really care for soccer but his favorite team supposedly was S.S. Lazio. He wanted a dominant team in Rome for the 1942 Esposizione Universale which never took place because of WW2 and rumor was that scudetto like many others back in the day were forged. He wanted Rome to be top of the world like they once were during the days of the Roman Empire and even created Eur its own futuristic city....

The Savoia family were in Naples I believe so you would think they would have had a pull on things but I think they only cared about their Royal Blue Italian national team. At that time though, I think everyone was preoccupied with the war and didn't have time to worry about football.
