I really thought this match was made for a Foden start. Alas, Pep thinks otherwise. A bit disappointing that he’s lost a chance to get even a hint of momentum.
Foden is City through & through they have him by the balls. Similar to Rice & West Ham (although Rice's issue is contractual rather than with playing time).
Dominic Solanke: Sancho’s success has been big influence on young players https://t.co/6rUdpyUIfh— Guardian sport (@guardian_sport) January 12, 2019
A good cup day for youngsters so far: Longstaff and Callum Roberts both scored for Newcastle, Armstrong for Blackburn. Also Tyrese Campbell with a brace.
Found this a really good read and very interesting: The parents of one highly sought-after teenager also spoke to me about how families are now wise to the “Carabao Cup trick” as clubs sign players in their positions, and why abroad is an increasingly attractive optionhttps://t.co/M8nnQjXpE7— Miguel Delaney (@MiguelDelaney) January 16, 2019
This part is fantastic and so true: “It’s amazing,” the scout said. “Fulham spent how many millions in the summer for two midfielders, and we wouldn’t pay for either of them. But O’Riley can’t get in the team and we’d pay for him.”
Not one single English qualified player starts the game between Arsenal and Chelsea but I’m sure the powers at be will tell us that it benefits the National team! Has this happened before or is this a first?
I hope Foden gets a start against against Burnley or Newcastle. I’m not saying he should be starting every game but players relish a bit of momentum.
Quite a few interesting selections in the cup today: Harper (incidentally starting his 4th match in a row), Field, Leko, Edwards, Adarabioyo all started and Tulloch came off the bench for a very creditable draw away to Brighton for West Brom. Woodman started for Newcastle, Longstaff again started. On the opposite side, Ben Wilmot played the 90 minutes for Watford. Ryan Giles debuted for Wolves, Gibbs-White started as well, although maybe not too successful a game as they were losing to Shrewsbury when subbed off. Dwight McNeil with another start for Burnley - disappointingly Foden only on for the last 15, hard to see him starting another game this season unless they draw lower league opposition in the cup. In championship matters, Tyrese Campbell has started the last two games for Stoke under Jones, although a disappointing 2-0 loss to Preston for them today.
Clarke also started for Leeds, but he had a bad game, subbed off in the interval. Abraham with a brace, and Dozzell still missing from the squad.
A bit sad that Man City are crying out for a bit of invention and fresh ideas but Pep still won't bring Foden on. Take a risk for crying out loud - it hardly builds character if you only come on once your team has a three goal lead.
Sarri said Ampadu didn't play well at all after Saturday's game and the whole CHO thing. Its a joke. Maurizio Sarri tells Callum Hudson-Odoi to respect Chelsea’s academy. @domfifield https://t.co/rjfr0GoqbG— Guardian sport (@guardian_sport) January 29, 2019
So, they refuse to let him go and he’s a big part of their future and should respect the academy etc, etc, etc but he’s not even on the bench. Weird, unless there is more going on behind the scenes than we’re lead to believe?
If this is true then wow! He would rather play another 2 years of U23 football West Ham have rejected offer from Dutch club Heerenveen to take Reece Oxford on loan until the end of the season. We’re told “he is now prepared to see out his contract until 2021 because of the politics surrounding the player and the way he has been portrayed”— Kaveh Solhekol (@SkyKaveh) January 30, 2019
Was just browsing on another thread and the conversation was about Youth development and party about England also. Just added what the guy said below and was just curious about our guys views from this forum as i’m just curious and not seen any or very little of the below age groups. He actually said in another reply that we’re bad behond these age groups. I would have thought it’s pretty hard to really judge the quality of those age groups just yet. Anyone have any views on the younger age groups? ‘I heard 2004 n 2005 in England aren’t as good . So it’s always a cycle.’
Ultimately the success of an age group is rested on how about 5 or so players develop, it's much better to look at age groups in batches of 3/4 than 1/2.
It would be extremely difficult to judge the 2004 and 2005 groups at this stage....they don't start getting consistent squads together till about under 16 stage. Hard to judge how good individuals are when the net is cast so far and wide. On the face of it, Chelsea are having a few leaner years by the looks of things in terms of talent production right now and they've contributed so much to previous sides, but then the likes of Arsenal and Man U have improved greatly as well in the past couple of years.
