Apparently Garner and Gomes are in the squad for the Cardiff game.

Fake news then. Or they might have just travelled with the squad.

Has anyone seen much of Angus Gunn? He made several important saves last night. He’s very commanding in the air due to his height but I haven’t seen enough of him to comment on his distribution.

He's very good with the ball on the deck. He was first choice at England youth level for a long time.

Hopefully, he can push on to challenge Pickford then. A bit of competition is always good.

A big weekend for young English players. Skipp, Mason Greenwood, Foden, Smith Rowe, Hudson Odoi, Garner and Gomes are all fit and in with a chance of minutes.

Skipp and Walker-Peters both start, Eyoma and Marsh on the bench against Tranmere

Two assists for Skipp. Really clever and incisive passing from deep. He, Garner and Gomes are interesting in that position.

Credit where credit's due, that's probably your most insightful comment yet.

A few more youngsters who start or started today: Field, Harper and Leko (WBA), O'Hare (Villa), Bird (Derby), Slattery (Southampton) and Hudson-Odoi.

A serious lack of Future Senior England International in this list.

I hadn’t forgotten about him but I thought Premier League opposition might mean he isn’t used. Hope I’m wrong.

He didn't have a great game. One good run to the byline but other than that he mostly passed backwards or gave the ball away.

I thought he played well. Hoever will be the one getting attention but Jones look comfortable and showed more than experienced senior players like Daniel Sturridge and Naby Keita did.

Sturridge was such an incredible talent. Killed by injuries like Wilshere.

I thought Hoever and Jones both looked terrified. Liverpool were awful across the board though.

On what planet did Hoever look terrified? He was the definition of composed.

I left after 65 minutes. Seems he made a few runs and got the natives excited.

He looked terrified in the first half passing it round the back endlessly and he made few defensive errors that he got away with.

Hudson Odoi looks and plays like a man. Smart decision making and if he can keep up the level of performance established in his last 2 games, he'll be in the next England squad or at least the U21s.

I think our central midfield options in the '00s stack up pretty well compared to the other age groups really.

Angel Gomes is being repositioned as a deep lying playmaker, then you have Oakley-Boothe, Skipp, McEachran, Gibbs-White, Harper. Kirby too though he's not looked as good as he was when he was younger.

An interesting mix of players. Of course we regularly see Gallagher and previously Denny who make it seem worse than it is due the fascination of having a scrappy safety central midfield.
