Olyroos When do the olympic qualifiers begin and when will we know that our beloved olyroos will be competing in London 2012?
Re: Olyroos Qualifiers themselves begin next month, the Olyroos'seses first game is 19 June. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_AFC_Men's_Pre-Olympic_Tournament
Re: Olyroos Thanks for the link. There's one thing I don't understand, though. If we could play in Asia's Olympic football qualifiers, why can't we also participate in the Asian Games?
Re: Olyroos The Olympics are an offical FIFA tournament (U23's) and thus we have to qualify according to our FIFA confederation. The Asian games are a "friendly" tournament and they can invite whoever they want.

Re: Olyroos Watched most of the match against Japan the other day. The scoreline was pretty flattering to Japan. The Olyroos looked pretty enterprising in attack actually. Japans goals all came through defensive mistakes, our boys were tiring towards the end of the match through lack of match fitness. The Japanese players were all in season so they never suffered from the same problem.

Re: Olyroos We definately have the "group of death" there. Japan and Korea would be top two at this level IMO, but the next 4 would be all in our group.

Re: Olyroos Great to hear. In Rajiv Chandrasekaran's fantastic book about the US Provisional Government in Iraq he details a little episode where on August 21 2004 a wave of heavy gunfire starts breaking out all over Baghdad. The Yanks are totally freaked out, thinking it's the beginning of a massive assault on the Green Zone... but it's just celebrations as Iraq knock us out of the Olympic QFs.

Re: Olyroos Are they crazy? Please tell me they are kidding, that they are not actually going to force our boys to go and play in Iraq. Given the group, yes, it will be difficult, but I am confident that our boys will be in London playing at the Olympic games.
