Another Zizou gift for this club. scouted, called and now already legend of this club, still only 25.
Varane is absolutely fantastic. His physical and technical attributes are next-level. He's on his way to becoming a legend of the game, not only the club. What a transfer this has been!
In terms of the league, i’d say the whole team needs to up their game, but still a fantastic achievement for Rafa at just 25 years of age
Varane finally got recognition. he has been living under the shadow of Pepe and Ramos for too long. In fact, I lived through Pavon, Woodgate, Helguera, Samuels and the younger Ramos at centerbacks. I appreciated the fact that Pepe was the best centerback at Europ 2016 and Varane got voted onto the team of tournament at this WC Finals.
he was always awesome, but just too many injuries. I think last season is the first one he didn't have a month off.
Started off on a high, with awesome skill speed reading the game, had everything, but that form did dip and became worrisome, a few more mistakes than normal were being made, ( plus a few injuries) fantastic all round defender when on his game, consistency playing at a high level is coming back
Yep. Varane is probably my favorite player, but his dip in form worried me a bit. For a while he seemed like he would be best as a second centerback with someone else quarterbacking him. That seemed odd given how good his reading of the game seemed to be at a really young age. The last few months he seems to really have regained his form, though. I'm now more confident that he can be the keystone CB as Ramos fades.
lets make it clear, I rate Varane much higher than Bale on all departments. Bale is a lost cause in terms of injuries, I knew it from day one we got him. All I'm saying is that last year was the first in the last few years he was playing almost the whole season. I just want to see this continues.

Real Madrid want Varane back after international duty injury The defender was taken off during France's friendly against Iceland and Real Madrid want him back at the club to assess the extent of his problem. Raphaël Varane was substituted at half time of France’s international friendly game against Iceland after picking up an injury, causing alarm bells at Real Madrid who fear that the loss of the defender will serve to aggravate their current defensive issues. The France Football Federation has not made any statement about the nature of Varane’s injury but the lack of a report from their medical department suggests it is nothing serious and the FFF said that he had been withdrawn merely as a precaution. However, Madrid are concerned about the situation and would prefer Varane to return to the club before France’s Nations League glamour clash with Germany on Tuesday, which the defender is unlikely to play any part in. Varane has been Real’s fourth-most used player this season under Julen Lopetegui, featuring for 870 minutes so far and starting every game apart from the Liga opener against Getafe and the subsequent game against Girona, when he played 30 minutes off the bench. He has played the full 180 in the Champions League and was on the pitch for 120 minutes in the Super Cup as well as racking up 225 minutes for France since the start of the season. With Dani Carvajal out and Marcelo feeling his way back from injury, Madrid are not eager to risk any more defensive losses and will request that Varane return to the club as soon as possible to undergo tests. Today, Real Madrid lost 1-2 against Levante at Bernabeu today. And Varane was involved in all of RM's conceded goals... https://streamja.com/1bkd https://streamja.com/0gQA
He has been horrible for a while. I can understand Ramos being on the wrong side of 30 being somewhat tired/unmotivated but Varane at his age and physical shape should be dominating in defense but instead he looks like he doesn't even belong there. Amateur mistakes, unfortunately not his first but his most blatant one so far this season.
Funnily enough, having caught the match around the half hour mark, I missed those, so I thought he was pretty good, Ramos overcommitted in a couple of instances in classic Sergio fashion, which led to some tricky situations but Varane did well, in the last hour
Serious question, and I would like honest answers: Why did I receive so much hate when I called Sergio Ramos a very talented footballer, but not a great natural defender? He has been guilty since the beginning of being a very rash defender at the center of defense. I said that he would never compare to being the kind of natural defensive talent that : Maldini, Nesta, Baresi, Puyol, Beckenbauer, Cannavaro, Desailly, Scirea, Bobby Moore etc.
He doesn't need to, he does have his lapses in concentration, but he's got many capabilities that most of your list could only dream of having, he's definitely the superior player, match winner, captain and legend than most players on that list. Another thing of note is that the game has changed a lot, just being a solid CB doesn't cut it anymore, also most of the names that we know as best pure CBs benefited from playing in solid sides, defensively, I'm sure they would've really struggled playing in our team where CBs are constantly in 1v1 or 2v1 situations, having to cover so much ground unguarded. It's like a different game at times.
I never understand how he is not a threat on corners/set pieces.. he just can't score. i mean you have great teacher near you but Varane just seems don;t have those things.
Ramos is not a "specialist" but he is a lethal all around player who can play anywhere in defense (including GK), in midfield and probably as a forward as well and he has won as much or more than any of those players. He's faster than most if not all of those players, better in the air than Baresi and Cannavaro, and most similar to Maldini, Desailly, and Beckenbaur because of his ability to play in the attack. His "natural" ability is fine. Its his discipline/decision making that is in question not his ability to intercept a pass, tackle, or clear the ball. And as has been said, he gets exposed more by virtue of the way our team/club usually sets up its tactics. If his name had been Gio Ramossi, he'd be praised as a king of catenaccio. And about Varane imagine all the trophies he has won and still trails Ramos by a couple of Liga's and European Cups.
