In what position will Kinnear play him?

Didn't we have to lose an international spot to acquire him?

    Thanks.

Also my brother in law is from Georgia the country so he will be excited.

This is going to be interesting. Jesse kept saying that they are going to acquire a "central" player. Vako plays either wide mid or CAM. I don't think Dom will use a CAM and give up one of his beloved two d / holding mids - we've been waiting how many years for it to happen? If he is not going to play wide, I can think of two ways that he might play centrally, and neither involves Dom given up his dual d / holding mid pacifier.

    1) Quakes move to a 3-5-2, with Vako playing in the center in front of the 4 mids and behind the two forwards. Would be pretty radical for Dom to try 3 in the back, but he did it against the Deltas. Maybe if he feels like it's his last hope?

    2) He is actually used as a withdrawn central forward, essentially taking Urena's spot. He has been a mid from what I can tell, but there is some question about work ethic. Playing him at forward would alleviate him from a lot of defensive tracking back.

Besides saying that the player would be a "central" player, Jesse has said that he will serve to link the midfield with the forwards. I think in either case, 1 or 2 above, that is essentially the role. Now of course Dom could just go ahead and do what Dom would normally do and move him out to a wide position, but we'll see.

Jesse is seeing Vako more a second striker according to his interview.

Hah, then I nailed it with my #2. :).

I think Jessie might be onto something. From what I see of Vako he will take on defenders, and he has a bit more of a stout build. He won't be easy to knock off the ball. The Quakes are just not doing it with passing - they are just not good enough to clever pass their way into chances with any regularity. So maybe you get a guy who kind of bulls his way towards the goal to generate chances. That's what I'm hoping. And by not playing him at wide mid you alleviate him from "track back" defensive responsibilities and you avoid adding another log to the logjam there.

Jesse has a funny way with English sometimes:

He was pursued by many teams and gave us also, as we were heading towards the end of the search, the certainty that while we were looking for a player that will give us not only offensive contribution, will go there where it hurts.

He used that phrase twice in the interview - "go where it hurts".

was just about to say this dude looks like the business, the added bonus is he looks like a hell of a marksman, we need a guy who can hit the ball like that from yard. This is the guy i want taking our PKs, he can hit it with authority and confidence. Good signing Jesse, find us a power forward and left back next, and sack Kinnear. K thx.

question is, does he play nicely with Wondo, or does it spell the beginning of the end for Wondo?

    great minds........

writing might be on the wall for super sub.

New guy seems like someone who will play nice with Urena. Hoesens has to be on a very short leash now, i mean try as he might he just doesnt got a nose for goal

If Jesse is correct, he will take Urena's spot. Wondo ain't going anywhere. The Quakes do not currently play with a "target forward" (Hoesen is the closest thing to that), so this would be nothing new.

Thankfully, the Georgian translation of "innocent" is "უდანაშაულო", pronounced udanashaulo, not "vako" nor "valeri".

Good to know that innocence is a recognized concept in the Georgian legal tradition. :)

When it comes down to it, with Jesse's hiring coming when it did, this is really his first major signing. It will be exceedingly interesting to see how this works out. I'm sure hoping for the best! Anybody know when he's available to play?

Minute 0:22 is what gives me hope about this guy. He has a stronger, sturdier build than your typical attacker. On that play he shoulders one guy off the ball, another guy hits his shoulder and falls down in a heap, and then he leaps over a tackle from a 3rd guy. Good stuff.

4-4-2 diamond midfield can accommodate Urena, Wondo, & Vako.

Plus, let's turn loose our outside fullbacks so they can provide the width in the attack.

I'm all for turning the outside backs loose, but don't think Dom will play a diamond with Vako at the point. Dual d/holding mids is Dom's soccer pacifier. You're not going to be able to take it away from him. Jesse even said something in his interview that in a lot of leagues teams don't play with a #10 / CAM.

“In many leagues in Europe, you don’t play with a classic number 10, and I don’t want to leave the impression as if Vako is only a classic number 10 – a central attacking midfielder. I would consider him, actually, a second striker.

How would TT and Hyka as the wings, Vako as the ACM and Wondo and Urena as the forwards work? I wonder if we'll ever get to find out?
