They'd never do it but a pre-season retro throwback game at Buck Shaw would be a riot.

Does anyone know why Shea was taking the PK? To give him a chance to score as a rookie?

When my cousin tried out in 2013, Shea told him he was afraid or (for whatever reason) couldn’t take free kicks or pk’s. That was 6 years ago but I doubt much has changed.

As I recall (could be mistaken), he was the one fouled on the play. There was no precedent (and likely no protocol) for penalty-taking at the time.

I'd be afraid, too, if I knew my every miss would be regularly recounted by falvo on BigSoccer. :)

Especially if each kick was 20 feet above the bar! :)

Happy for Shea, good to see him wearing the captains arm band, even better to see him back in his natural position, even better still to see him scoring goals! I’m glad he was able to recover from that ridiculous decision to try to all of a sudden, at this point in career, turn him into a LB. that was pretty ridiculous on someone’s part, presumably Stahre’s genius at work, credit to Shea for giving it his best back there anyway.

Have you seen the Jeff Goldblum and Eddie Murphy movie Holy Man (1998)? Ricky (Goldblum) manages a TV shopping network. He befriends a homeless holy man named "G" who spouts philosophy on the channel. Based on the words G uses, Ricky throws up various things on the TV for shoppers to buy.

The Quakes marketing campaign reminds me of Holy Man. Very much. Even the name is almost the same -- G versus Q.

Shea’s father John came over and shook my hand after the match today. My daughter asked why didn’t i get a picture. Because my phone is mot my first thought.

Mentioned elsewhere, it was pretty cool that Shea’s dad, John came over and introduced himself and shook my hand after the match on Saturday. Adding, he looked pretty cool in his blue/black Quakes shirt (with Salinas #6, on the back) blue jeans, boots and black cowboy hat. Yeah, I know Shea is from Grapevine, Tx.

As Shea is having a career year, will he be handsomely rewarded with a new 2-3 year contract at the age of 33?

Shea has been great this year, but tough night for him. Still love him, especially as a midfielder!

Salinas got the assist on Wondo's record breaking goal. Other than maybe 2012, so far this years, it has to be his best season.

Since he moved to his current area to patrol (not spot or place, since the game requires an understanding of that 3rd dimension of above the field), he has been successful. Another nod to Pelado who sees best where to deploy his players.

i sure hope his temporarily hot foot returns soon. He's had several great chances/shots in each of the last 2 games.

@NedZ, maybe that young filmmaker could make a short film about Shea & Wondo together, how their paths have tracked and maybe culminated this season, how they've overcome setbacks. Assuming that they are actual friends, it could be interesting with a lot of lessons learned for young footballers dreaming of a pro career.

As time passes, Shea Salinas never ceases to amaze me. His goal last night against the LA Galaxy and his subsequent assist to Tommy Thompson was next to beautiful. When I look at the DP salaries of some superstar players and even some other bench warmers across the league who have come and gone, Salinas is still here and improves with each passing year. He has finally turned into a dynamic player in his old age! Hats off to him!

Both Lletget and Salinas returned from injuries last night. One stood out and the other one was invisible. I could tell Shea was pumped to play by how much he was vibrating during warm ups. He kept thumping his chest which is a habit he has when he’s excited.

If there should be a permanent statue of Wondo outside of Avaya, maybe there should be a Salinas one outside of Stanford. At least a portable or inflatable one when we play there. With his shirt off, of course.
