the good old days when 3-0 became our biggest embarrassment in WC history. Things escalated quickly from there.

Vs Germany in the Olympic semi final in 1988. Possibly the only time that they lost a shootout in history? quite a feat.

I knew his birthday was on September 22 but then I heard that he was born on September 18 but was registered on September 22. He's so great that he has 2 birthdays! ;-)

In my unbiased opinion, he is much better than Messi and R 7, because he won World Cups on top of his other championships!

R9 also performed in stellar fashion in the biggest of games. That is also what sets him apart. His absence due to injuries made his teams (Brazil, Real Madrid) fall apart. But that's not the case with Messi and CR7. I think he is easily better than CR7, being way more talented than him. I also think he was a superior player to Messi before his injuries but probably not after his injuries. But then, even after such horrific setbacks, he still came back to perform in the biggest games of the biggest tournaments, unlike the current stars.

Brazil fell apart after the 2002 WC because that whole generation declined, and Ronaldo was still there in 2006 and didn't do anything special (scored a couple of goals against rubbish teams).

Since then we have never had any generation like that of 2002.

Seu último gol pela Seleção Brasileira foi também o último gol da final, da Copa do Mundo de 1970, e da grandíssima era dourada da Seleção Brasileira.

Descanse em paz, Carlos Alberto Torres – adeus ao Capitão do Tri.

    CARLOS ALBERTO TORRES
    Dead today at 72.
One of my hero’s growing up – The captain of the 1970 Brasilian World Cup Champions, one of the greatest defenders of all time that revolutionized the attacking defender, that was the first to kiss the World Cup trophy demonstrating eternal love.
A sad day in Futebol Brasileiro.
My greatest memory of Carlos Alberto – the 4th and last goal of the 1970 final against Italy and retiring the world cup Jules Rimet Trophy.
    RIP CAPITA !!
    I WILL ALWAYS LOVE YOU.

He was way before my time, but sad loss. Seemed to be fairly healthy.

So a few years ago I was searching for highlights or full games of the Tornoi de France in 1997 where Brazil, France, Italy, England played a 1998 WC mini prep tournament. The tournament where RC scored that amazing free kick. I found some highlights but never searched again. I looked it up again recently and found the full games and watched the game against France and Italy.

Just before this tournament they played Mexico in the Orange Bowl and I was there to watch it. Great experience and we killed them 4 x 0. I remember not being that impressed by Ronaldo who was all the talk at that time. In these 2 games vs France and Italy it was the same. Denilson was killing it vs Italy though. Too bad he couldn't finish to save his life. Also of notice was the high pace of the games (specially vs Italy) and quite a few slide tackles that today may be yellow cards. Maldini was so damn good too.

    Here they are.
