Yep... it still hurts me now and i am an english man !.. I ve been writing a thread on tele santanas time as brazil coach and going through the archives and old magazines it seems like tele could have taken reinaldo or even Nunes of flamengo or Baltazar.. even socrates was used as centre forward in some games before the 82 world cup.. Tele for some reason seemed to love serginho despite serginho being an aggressive and troublesome player for sao paulo.. tele wanted pure technical football so i never understood why he liked serginho .. i know he scored alot of goals at club level but his technique was poor compared to other attacking players of the era... still a mystery !!
Andre Cruz was also in the 1990 world squad wasnt he ?... remember him scoring a free kick against italy before italia 90... i saw him play for napoli and milan ..he looked better than Baiano.. though i dont know how well he was playing in 1998..
Reinaldo was sadly plagued with injuries. I would probably have picked a Brazilian waiter rather then Serginho. He was meant to come on the 1981 tour but was suspended shortly before! I used to love watching Ze Sergio - a speedy winger (and Rivelino's cousin) and preferred him to Eder
Yeah Ze Sergio was a great player..he got injured badly in 1981 and had a knee operation and lost form... But i was also a big fan of Eder despite his bad temper !!.. great left foot...
Did you watch Serginho in his Sao paulo and Santos days ?.. i have seen a fair amount of his games on videos over the years and he never impressed me..he used to play alongside Ze Sergio.. What was your opinion of serginho in club football ?...
Thankfully I saw little of him - I am English with a Brazilian football heart - nothing on TV here in those days. Ze Sergio played his last game for Brazil at 24 - a bloody shame.
O Gaucho da Copa dead at 60 after fighting cancer for 9 years. He followed Brazil in WCs, CAs, and Olympics since 1990. This guy did not deserve the 7 x 1 ... RIP. http://g1.globo.com/rs/rio-grande-d...60-anos-vitima-de-cancer-em-porto-alegre.html
RIP, what suck is his lasting memory of the NT is 7-1. Only 60 too, I thought he was much older, he was around for ages.
I'm pretty sure he was at the Copa America too this summer. I'll try to find a picture. I'm watching 1994 WC videos. The memories are flooding back. I can't wait until we can go back to this.
