AFC reject Palestine request to play in Gaza KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 17 (Reuters) - Palestine's request to play their home 2007 Asian Cup qualifiers in Gaza was rejected by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) on Tuesday. The AFC said on its website that it could not reverse its policy of having Palestine and Iraq play their home matches on neutral territory because of security fears. 'A previous Competitions Committee decision prohibits (the) Palestine and Iraqi football associations from hosting matches on their soil until the security situation improves,' AFC deputy general secretary Paul Mony said. Palestine Football Association president Ahmed Al-fifi had written to the AFC and football's world governing body FIFA asking for permission to play their home games in Gaza. Jordan or Qatar now look the most likely venues for Palestine's home Asian Cup qualifiers. They played all of their home 2006 World Cup qualifiers in Doha. Palestine have been drawn in Group E alongside China, Iraq and Singapore in the 2007 Asian Cup qualifiers which begin on February 22.
Re: Palestine & Wehdat Football thread What dou you think... I personally think the team should base itself in Jordan becuase there are alot more Palestinians there than in Qatar. Also I have heard that Iraq has based itself in Qatar for the AFC qualifiers. If anyone has any information on the team please post it. I have not gollowed them since the World Cup qulaifying campaign... I heard they had a pretty rough Asian Games I have no idea who they fielded though. I hope the team doesn't drop in quality now that Alferd Riedl has left. On the bright side though Wehdat are doing amazingly well in the Arabian CL they are through to the semis after beating Al-Nasr 3-2 on aggreagate. Re: Palestine & Wehdat Football thread Amman (ArabSport)- The national Palestinian football team lost 2-0 to Jordanian foils Shabab Ordon in the friendly match featuring the two on Petra stadium on January 31st. Jan 29 : 0-0 against Jordan club Baqaa http://www.jfa.com.jo/english/index.asp
Re: Palestine & Wehdat Football thread Well not the best results... but reports show they are more like scrimmages than actual matches. I guess the real teset is the Match against Syria in Aleppo on teh 7th.
Re: Palestine & Wehdat Football thread Ramtha draw with Palestine Publish Date : 5/February/2006 Amman (ArabSport)- National Palestinian football team concluded their training camp in Jordan with a 2-2 draw with their foils, Ramtha, at prince Hamzeh complex on the latter gournds. The match ended yesterday, February 5th, and thus terminated the Palestinians' preparations for the Asian Qualifiers. Ramtha, on the other hand, are preparing for the return leg stage of the Premier League. Palestine scored in minute five of the first half through Fadi Lafi, while Omar Awaqleh scored for Ramtha in minute eight. Awaqleh then followed with another goal in minute 70, and Fahad Attal scored in 80. After the match, the Palestinian team left to Syria to meet the Syrian national team on March 7th in Aleppo.
Re: Palestine & Wehdat Football thread 3-0 Loss for Palestine, not good news... does anyone here know if Palestine played their Chilean based players, because with that scoreline I'd be shocked. Probably not since they could not be released from their clubs (since its not an official FIFA friendly date). Hopefully with the inclusion of our foriegn base we will put in a better performance in the qualifiers. Warmup match against Wehdat next.... pick ur loyalties club or country?
Re: Palestine & Wehdat Football thread The Palestinians, meanwhile, arrived in Amman after a friendly against the Syrian national team which they lost 0-3. Palestine will clash with top Jordan outfit Al Wihdat on Friday and play AFC Cup holders Al Faisaly on Sunday. Their last tune-up outing will be against Pakistan on February 18 in Manama. http://www.the-afc.com/english/media/default.asp?mnsection=media§ion=newsDetails&newsID=5042
Re: Palestine & Wehdat Football thread Where does the Palestine - Chile connection come from ? There was a Documentary on TV over here in the UK a few months ago called "Football in the Danger Zone". One of the series was about the Palestine national team.
Re: Palestine & Wehdat Football thread The Chilean connection comes from the fact that lots of Palestinians immigrated there during Ottaman rule... and even more joined them after the creation of Israel... the players are allowed to play for Palestine since they all can trace a grandparent back to Palestine... PS- if that documentary is online anywhere I'd love to see it.. cheers.
Re: Palestine & Wehdat Football thread AL-Wehdat forum was hacked by a guy called Dr.3yoon, however the site is back.
Re: Palestine & Wehdat Football thread 1-1 Draw with Faisaly of Jordan. Fadi Lafi scored for Palestine... Palestine plays Bahrain tomorow Palestine draw with Faisali Publish Date : 13/February/2006 Amman (ArabSport)- Friendly match featuring Faisali and the national Palestinian football team ended in a 1-1 draw at Israa stadium within both teams' preparations for upcoming enocunters. Faisali are gearing up for the next stage of the Premier Jordanian Football League, while Palestine are preparing for the Asian Qualifiers. The level of the game was intermediate, coaches of the teams strove to try out the largest number of players possible, and it should be hinted that Palestine wanted to extend the game to cover three halves. Faisali's Haytham Shboul scored in minute 36 while Fadi Lafi scored in 73 for Palestine. The national Palestinian football team will be leaving Amman today, Monday February 13th, to Bahrain, where they are scheduled to meet their Bahraini counterparts in a friendly.
Re: Palestine & Wehdat Football thread I don't know for sure... I'll look into it... it would make sense if they are playing in China later on that week.
Re: Palestine & Wehdat Football thread Amman (ArabSport)- National Palestinian footballer, Fahad Attal, receives an offer from Jordanian Wihdat club to play within the team's ranks after the professional display of skills that he menifested during the friendly match featuring the two teams. Attal expressed his consent to playing with Wihdat, after a call he got from Zyad Shelbayeh. Now the floor is open to formalities and paper work, as well as negotiations over the price and the like. For a bit of backgorund information about the player, he is 21 years old and is considered the scorer of the Premier Palestinian League. He had received many offers from local Palestinian clubs such as Jabal Mukabber and Hilal Ariha. http://www.jfa.com.jo/english/index.asp
Re: Palestine & Wehdat Football thread Palestine- Pakistan Feb 18 in Manama , Bahrain. In FIFA fixture list and also mentioned on AFC website.
Re: Palestine & Wehdat Football thread I am glad that there is more people following the Palestinian national team, Inshalha they will do good against China
Re: Palestine & Wehdat Football thread This is definetley a great result for Palestine, but I doubt Bahrain had their A players, and I'm not even sure Palestine had their Chileans.
Re: Palestine & Wehdat Football thread Wow this is very good, but its only afriendly,..... lets see how well we do against China
Re: Palestine & Wehdat Football thread In the match, Allam put Palestine ahead in the 26th minute and substitute striker Fahad Al Atal sealed a surprising victory two minutes before full-time.
Re: Palestine & Wehdat Football thread Some news on China http://www.the-afc.com/english/media/default.asp?mnsection=media§ion=newsDetails&newsID=5115
Re: Palestine & Wehdat Football thread I think the result is even more impressive if Palestine did not have their Chileans. Because quite honestly were crap without them. Unfortunatley Palestine had a vitrtual full squad and Bahrain were missing some of their Qatar based players... but its a great boost for morale. If we did this agaisnt Bahrain we will most surely destroy Pakistan.
