A couple takeaways from Matias Almeyda's introductory press conference: The #Quakes74 made this hire as part of their effort to expand the influence of their academy in San Jose, as well as it's ability to successfully deliver players up through the system to the first team.

Jesse Fioranelli specifically called out Almeyda's ability to integrate young players into the fold at Chivas and in Argentina. He saw Almeyda taking a role in doing the same for the #Quakes74, especially in having academy guys regularly interacting with the first team.

When asked about the level of ambition this hire presents, the answers suggested that bringing in Almeyda is just the start. This team has some significant roster moves to make, and that will be the focus over the next few months. Almeyda will be involved in the process.

Why?

 

Wow. I'm in shock. Other than remembering him from his playing days, I hadn't followed him during his coaching career. Very impressive resume.

Yes, he still needs players, but this is large step forward in the right direction. Glad to see they made a decision quickly.

 

If Almeyda demands the whole team to move, press and mark, that will be the opposite of what we see today which is too much ball watching, low energy, tentativeness, static/no movement.

To play that style, it requires the right type of players who play with commitment and discipline in an organized manner.

I wonder whether players like Godoy and Vako will fit in.

Gary knows how to get a decent photo with a bright background. The live video feed on FB was a joke.. Dark faces and blue SJ sky in the background.

 

If Godoy and Vako can't fit, then we will play players who will fit.

 

For clarification. You meant to type Vako, correct? Not cato? Or anything similar?

 

He also mentioned (in one of the Spanish Q&A that was translated) that he's been taking English lessons for the past month. So it definitely sounds like the negotiations have been in the works for a while (as confirmed by Don G. earlier).

I'm guessing his English will be fine in several months. Also, language hasn't been a problem in Atlanta, so I'm not too concerned...

 

Great, because some of our players have been following the Bushligo code, "the way of the inferior".

 

I had to come back onto big soccer and start being active again because as a Chivas fan, I absolutely love this signing.

Correction: "he will certainly know" should be replaced by "he will be horrified" and "how they play" should be replaced by "how they sort of try to play".
