http://www.espn.com/soccer/club/gua...nsformed-them-into-title-contenders-once-more Read this whole article -- I might cry. This guy is everything I ever wanted. I wonder if Jesse get's let go as part of the announcement tomorrow. He seems like a guy would demand full control over player acquisition to take a job that is such a step down in glitz/glamour from jobs he could have gotten, like Leeds United (where his famous mentor, Marcelo Bielsa, has the fallen giant in pole position for promotion to the EPL). "But it is more than that. Almeyda was named as sporting manager back in June. The role involves overseeing the sporting side of the club and coordinating the first team with all youth teams (the club has over 200 youngsters on the books). There is also a project in the pipeline to build a brand new complex on the land next to Estadio Chivas, which would include pitches and a clubhouse for younger players."
We actually have yet to see either of them sitting inside a suite, but from those two pics, Stahre's suit actually looks better than Almeyda's. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
So, do you know if this is a Jesse or Fox move? Or is this down to a group effort? Go Quakes!! - Mark
Everyone should read this article (assuming he is officially announced as our coach)... it is everything I could want (except spending like Barca does). I hope they give him full control on the technical side of the team.
Just speculating but it’s most likely a Jesse move. I have a feeling he used his Lazio ties to contact him.
This gives me hope that Jesse just missed on his initial assessment of MLS and now sees what it takes to win. Can’t wait to see the off-season player moves.
Be interesting to see if Matias is here for Saturday's exhibition against Cruz Azul, he will certainly know how they play.
I've repressed most of my Stahre memories, but the two moments that do stick out (his hiring announcement and the Alashe incident), he didn't wear a tie... Even in those shots he looks more composed than the more disheveled image I have of him, but that's probably just my bias considering I've loathed the guy since before he'd even coached a half dozen games here...
When was the last time that the Quakes (not even something they did, but a rumor) were the top story on the league site? https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2018...rthquakes-set-unveil-matias-almeyda-new-coach
I guess we'll find out during the announcement, but it wouldn't surprise me if Ralston remains in charge for the rest of the season while Almeyda observes the team (during practice/games) so that he can assess the players, needs, etc. Even if he does not get directly involved in running practices or managing during games, there will still be plenty of things he can do....
0.00% chance Almeyda coaches an official Quakes game in 2018, so yeah, Ralston finishing out this dismal season "wouldn't surprise"...
He seems to have a pretty good caching record ever since he stopped playing. He managed River Plate in the 2011-2012 season, the year they were relegated and gained promotion right away. Granted River were/are a great historic team but he did the exact same thing with Banfield and won the 2nd division championship only 2 years later. As for his time at Chivas, he seemed to have won quite a bit considering he was only there 3 years. They hadn't won anything in 11 years until Almeyda took over. Also, as Chivas can only sign Mexican born players as opposed to expensive foreigners , he seems to have an eye for domestic talent. This may help the youngsters.
noon: The @SJEarthquakes have announced a press conference for noon today, where it is presumed that Matias Almeyda will be announced as the team's new head coach. I'll provide updates from @AvayaStadium as it happens. #Quakes74— Robert Jonas (@robertjonas) October 8, 2018
i'll be honest and say I heard the name and said "who!?" never have followed Mexican soccer, but after reading all he is has done, sounds like a major coup in getting him. hoping for the best.
Why does it matter where the players are from. I just want good players I don't care if they're from Europe South America Africa Asia or Australia. We've had plenty of misses from South America. Pintos, mpg, quintana come to mind. Some of my favorite players the last 10 years (and guys who are most dedicated to the cause) have been good ol domestic guys like wondo, Cronin, lenhart, baca, Gordon, tommy, and Lima.
This report claims Almeyda has a release clause in his new contract that will allow him to move on, if a desired opportunity materializes (e.g. a national team job). It also adds that Almeyda’s coaching staff at Chivas will follow him to #Quakes74. https://t.co/qf2tgpwaUt— Joel Soria (@soriajoelfutbol) October 8, 2018 Per @ruubenrod, Almeyda has signed a four-year deal with #Quakes74 and will take the helm in January. https://t.co/XJrztgLn0Y— Joel Soria (@soriajoelfutbol) October 8, 2018
Rafael Baca is actually from Mexico, currently plays for Cruz Azul and in fact may see playing time in Avaya Stadium this coming Saturday. Your overall point is well taken, though. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Unless the Quakes figured out a way to perform some Jedi mind trick on Almeyda, I assume the Quakes are 1) paying him a boatload of money, and 2) promised him a boatload of money for new acquisitions.
If Almeyda were to have taken over the MXNT he would have being reached a long time ago. Same thing with Argentina.
