Qwiberg wasn’t even good enough for Reno. If the Quakes can’t get him off the books they need to loan him out all year so his international slot doesn’t hit the cap (which they did for Leandro Barrera).
If they can't trade Eriksson, they should buy out his contract (if they haven't already bought out a contract this season). Qwiberg was a waste of a signing, but he always seemed to want to contribute when called upon. Keeping Eriksson around is just bad for the team. He isn't very good, he had poor behavior on the field when things didn't go his way, and he refused to adapt to the league in which he played. I'd have preferred seeing Qwiberg out there in every game to Eriksson.
Well, yeah, but the question is how? It's reasonable to think that Eriksson could be picked up by a team in a league where he's had success. Qwiberg has no history of success playing anywhere. The team only gets one contract buyout per year, so they have to be careful in how they use it. They used it appropriately when they bought out Dawkins' contract before. Using it for Eriksson would make sense, but the team had better be sure they can't trade him or sell him instead. Then they could buyout Qwiberg's contract.
BOTH need to go, like yesterday. We could stick Qwiberg on the Reno squad with a season long loan and free up an int slot, but best solution is to ditch them both. Neither should ever play for our team again. Go Quakes!! - Mark
One hitch in that plan. Reno would have to agree to it. Why would they? He's already proven he's not better than other Reno players.
Source? I wouldn't think they'd be given 100% control. I could see where the agreement may be in part that they can push x number of players per year to Reno at the Quakes behest.
"X number of players on loan" is the type of agreement between MLS clubs and their independent USL affiliates, for example the Quakes and Sacramento. "MLS 2" teams are obviously fully controlled by the MLS team in all aspects. Quakes have a "hybrid" affiliation with Reno (following the same model as Houston and Rio Grande Valley), where they control the soccer side, but Reno controls the business side.
It's simple really, Russell does not want to play him. Doesn't matter what the Quakes FO tells him, if Russell doesn't want to play him (and has a legitimate reason to do so), then they can't do shit.
Well, they can do something. They could end their relationship with Reno and leave the team with no technical staff or guidance. I highly doubt Reno wants to upset the Quakes to the point where they walk away, and then suddenly have to put together an entire technical staff to run the team the owners had no real hand in running.
I'm sure he's a nice man, but I want Magnus off of OUR team, asap!!! Go Quakes!! Go Away Magnus!! - Mark
Eriksson desperately needs to go but TT should be starting every game even though he's scored just one goal in five years. alrighty then.
I got the impression today that Magnus is assumed to be remaining with the team this season. (A little birdie... etc).
I got the impression from the use of his name in this context: the new signings are expected to be starters or, at the least, to cause strong competition for starting spots. If Magnus were known to be gone, I wouldn't have expected to have heard his name mentioned.
Some "welcome home", some "when are you coming home?", some "see you soon" and some "you know this where you belong"-type comments. Nothing that indicates anyone was aware of an actual deal. There are a couple I couldn't make sense of because of the differences between Swedish (which I don't know) and Norwegian (which I do), but they didn't seem like they had any information.
No no, I don't mean the Reno ownership. I'm talking about Russell the coach himself, he's part of the Quakes. If Russell, who's part of the Quakes himself, does not want to play a particular player, then I doubt that the Quakes FO would rule against Russell--I'm sure that Russell, and Reno, have emphasized to the Quakes that, although Reno is used for developments, winning on the field is still an emphasis there.
