If, as rumored, Colorado hires NZ coach Anthony Hudson, I wonder if he will try to 'free" Kip from the Quakes?

Wow, did not know that was rumored. It would be too bad if he got traded because I think Colvey's the type of player that the Quakes should want going forward if they want to play a smarter possession oriented game.

It's being talked about on the Rapids board if you care to wander over there....

Wouldn't be surprised if Hudson tries to acquire him, but I hope the Quakes kip him.

We'll see if Leitch and Jesse are kipable of that.

In an interview (or maybe an official fan-to-player-online chat), Justin Morrow was asked what his favorite goal that he's scored is. He replied "every goal I score against the San Jose Earthquakes".

Had either Justin Morrow or Steven Beitashour stayed in San Jose as opposed to going to Toronto , they will have never played in successive MLS Cups...I'm pretty sure they are both glad they left......

    Beitashour went to Vancouver first.

Either way, they aren't in San Jose and they will have never had an opportunity to play in any (or two for that matter) MLS Cup's had they never left. I for one wouldn't be too disappointed about leaving.

sorry to see him go, he seemed like a nice kid with potential. Also I'm bummed because being a Cal Poly alumni I was happy to see a fellow Mustang (not Danville) on the Quakes....

Agree on all counts (I'm not a Poly Mustang but have a close family member who is). Drinking out of a Poly branded mug as I'm writing this :).

I hope he gives up a goal every time we play him.

We are guilty of too much of this shit. Treat players badly, let them go, then get our asses handed to us by guys we cut, traded, or waived. Freaking brilliant!

Maybe Colvey wanted to go to Colorado to be with Hudson? I'm disappointed, naturally.

    Go Quakes!!
    Stay Crew!!

We could see this coming, but still, bad news for our team. Are we down to about two defenders now?

Yeah we saw it coming from miles away. The next thing coming is him having some success in CO where presumably he'd finally be given a chance. I wouldn't be the least surprised if he is a game 1 starter for CO next year.

I just think Colvey just didn't fit Jesse's plan for what he wants our outside backs to be able to do, and that is to show speed and aggressiveness on both sides of the ball. Lima fits the bill on the right, and Qwiberg is slated to fulfil that role on the left. It's like Beita/Morrow 2.0. I think Colvey would be a serviceable back up, but not starting material. Good luck with him in Colorado with Hudson.

If Lima doesn't learn to actually defend, then I won't care much about his offensive contributions. Hopefully Qwiberg knows how to keep players from blowing past him for easy crosses into the box.

We don't actually know what Jesse's "plan" or style of play is. With Leitch I thought it might be one thing and with the hiring of Stahre it may be another. There is some indication that possession might be emphasized more. That could be a common thread between Leitch and Stahre. If that's the case then Colvey would be a good fit, as he is very calm on the ball and makes good decisions / passes. As for aggressiveness the last time we saw him play with the 1st team he had 7 key passes in the 1st half. I wouldn't be surprised if that was an all-time record for a Quakes outside or wing back.
