He coached one game when Dom’s father died around 2004 or 05. I can’t recall but I think they won. He wasn’t much of a TV personality. Nothing like Ray Hudson. Dangerfield isn’t the greatest but he was better than John on tv...

I think JD is still in charge of the Mustangs and is getting paid by them and the soccer camps he conducts. Guess he deserves credit for milking a living out of it. I foresee Wondo having his own camp in the future and being what Doyle was from 2005-2016....

I thought he was a pretty good assistant coach, he obviously had a hand in the amazing 2005 team. He also is 2-0-0 as a head coach. He won against the Metrostars in 05, and then against the Crew in 2004.

    Figured this belonged here....

I'm betting John Doyle will somehow be involved with the new Sac MLS team.

So what is the difference between ECNL and DA? I thought ECNL is invite only and is DA just MLS clubs?

I like the relegation model, in this case ECNL > NorCal's NPL

I just someone would tell us what ECNL is the acronym for!

    Elite Clubs National League.

Is your google machine broken? :D

BTW - as a referee, I ********ing hate doing ECNL and NPL games because of the moronic substitution rules that require the crew to keep track of the players entering and leaving the game. If they want to implement that sort of bookkeeping requirement, they should have to pay for a fourth official.

Of course not, but, they shouldn't assume everyone knows what the acronym stands for. Lazy journalism I say!

I ran into an old Clash teammate of JD and he told me that Doyle was one of the most racist people he had ever played with. To the point that guys like Ronald Cerritos and Missael Espinoza would turn down alumni event invitations if John was going to be there.

Dick and Asshole were the adjectives used to describe how his teammates felt about him. I had heard Jimmy Conrad mention that before but it was enlightening to hear it from another source (who happens to be white).

Makes me wonder if players that played under GM Doyle picked up on that side of him and left early (or never came at all if they heard the rumor).

Doyle was full of himself. I would go with the first adjective above. It would not surprise me if the above was true. Sad to see him in Quakes Hall of Fame.

    So Doyle hates Hispanics...

Well without valid proof calling someone a racist is awful. I hope he's changed his views and is no longer racist and it's behind him if this is true.

Don't know about Doyle specifically, but in the early days of MLS I can attest with certainty that folks (including players) familiar with the situation used to call us "The KKKlash".

Anything is possible I suppose. I do believe the source, since I know he was there. It brings up the fact that Doyle had a lot of influence in the Clash (captain) and the Quakes (assistant coach/GM) and that his presence could have turned off a lot of potential players from coming to SJ.

JD used the infamous N word to refer to his black opponents. Probably trash talked during games to throw players off their game. I can see how that rep would get around.

    You mean like Carlos Hermosillo?

Could this be the reason Raul Diaz Arce failed, left and was traded for Sequira and a ball bag? Looking in hindsight, we really did lack Hispanics when they preached 'lets connect to the Hispanic community' but as I say to this situation... NOOOO MAAAMEZZZZZ

Right after the 1990 World Cup, John Doyle appeared on the local Fubol De Primera radio program with Alex Gutman and he was asked on why there weren't more Latins or Hispanics involved with the US national team.

At that time, only the elite college players were allowed to play on the national team and Doyle said that he though that Bob Gansler preferred a different style. In reality, the only Latin player he took to Italia 90 was Tab Ramos and he left off Hugo Perez and all the indoor MISL players like Chico Borja.

When Bora Milutinović came in, he took Perez, Fernando Clavijo and Cle Kooiman who was playing in Mexico for Cruz Azul and he released Doyle from the USMNT around 92/93.

You know as much maligned as Doyle, Yallop , Watson , Kinnear and even Stahre were at the end, I've never seen the team as bad as they are now when they were in charge of this team.

Come to think of it, they were a lot more competitive then than they are now....

Doyle was an idiot along with Yallop for the team he drafted in 2008, which set the path to where we are today. We could have had Mike Magee who wouldn't have embarrassed us by shutting us out for 45 minutes in goal... or Goldthwaite, Gordon, Waibel, Petke, Guevara, or Cancela.

    Oh well, F-Doyle

John Doyle may be a lot of things, but his dedication to the organization should be respected. He's still better then Fioranelli.
