I don't hang out in Danville/San Ramon -Tri Valley. Doyle and company are too ritzy for my connections.

We've seen Innocent "play". He has nothing to defend.

Doyle doesn't need to bad-mouth his "struggling" former employer, who "hilariously" heeds posts on the internet from guys with fake names. Dom is doing it for him.

Will his former employer pay off the remaining balance of the $400k they owe him for the rest of the year? Or will Lew pull an Al Davis and not pay him like Al did with Lane Kiffin?

John Doyle, director of coaching and player development for the Mustang Soccer Club of Danville, watches both players and coaches during a recent tryout in Danville. Doyle is a former San Jose Earthquakes general manager. (Dan Honda/Bay Area News Group)

Didn't reveal too much. Glad at least he had another job to fall back on. It must be nice to lose a job that paid $400k a year and gain another one paying $200k....He lost some money but he also milked it quite a bit for 9 years so I'm sure he has enough saved up....

Talk about fluff. The only person quoted in the article, other than Doyle, works for him. I wonder why the BANG ran it. Human interest? Mustang marketing? Slow news day?

Not to mention it was right in time for the Quakes season. Dom have anything to do with this much? Or maybe its just more publicity for the Mustangs?

I don't miss John's arrogance or his way of dealing with player agents but I'm starting to vastly compare Doyle with Fioranelli. Not sure who is better or worse.

    So far, they are tied....

As a defensive player, I though he was among the best in the country. Much better in my opinion than many other American defenders of that era.

As a GM and/or administrator or scouting of club talent, he was far from prepared for the position. John Doyle however, should get all the credit for discovering or at least not giving up on Wondo. That was quite an accomplishment!

Wasn't he the last cut (or at least one of the last cuts) from the USMNT just prior to the 1994 FIFA World Cup?

Probably along with Frank Yallop. :)

I believe, actually, that Jeff Agoos was the last cut from that team, but I could be wrong.

Doyle was actually paired with Thomas Dooley in the back and then opted for Europe I believe and didn’t really do much. I think that made Bora mad because when the USMNT scrimmaged the SF Bay Blackhawks, a reporter asked him about Doyle. Bora said he should have been with us and from what it sounded like, JD blew it. At that point he was already removed from the group and he was never picked again until Steve Sampson was hired. Sampson picked John in 1997 but Doyle refused as he was not guaranteed a starting spot and he needed to play with the SJ Clash on the weekend. He was never picked again for national team.

A silly and hypothetical question. I know soccer has changed over time. Would John Doyle in his prime be on the game day roster or even a starter under Almeyda today? John Doyle seems to be the very old school type of CB which we don’t see in MLS anymore.

I sure hope not... His primary activity on any ball sailing into his area was to head it right back to where it came from...

FWIW, Dom was also a late cut due to appendicitis, if I'm remembering correctly.....
