This is what I don’t understand about Almeyda’s not starting the job until January. Jesse should be out scouting for the next big thing. But how can he do that until he has cut a lot of players and knows how to manage his 2019 budget? And how can he cut players until Almeyda has told him who he wants to keep, if anyone? Or will Jesse just cut all but 7 players again, and then have Almeyda tell him in January who to sign?

Or, perhaps Almeyda gave Jesse a shopping list, and Jesse is trying to sign the specified players, before he cuts the Quakes that they are replacing?

EIther way, I don’t see how this flows into a coherent project management schedule without Almeyda on site and working with Jesse. Therefore, it seems that Jesse must be sitting in his office proactively writing a bunch of excuses for the first half of the season. Actually, he can just recycle last year’s excuses.

If you think Almeyda and Jesse will wait until January to prepare the new season, you are naive. The preparations have started long ago. They have new players already signed and a bunch of the current players have their bags ready.

if they'd signed any new players already, I'm sure we'd know. hopefully they have some announcements coming soon. Jesse has his work cut out for him. sure would be nice if they were opening up some honest communication with the fans but maybe there's some legitimate reason for keeping everyone in the dark, who knows? there's obviously plenty that they can't discuss in terms of specific player acquisition strategy but there's plenty they could say at this point (big picture stuff) to give fans some hope for next season.

Who cares what the FO says? When the new season starts, they'll be keeping score (again). The results will speak for themselves (as always).

not everyone is as unwavering and as unconditionally committed to buying season tickets and attending all the games as you are, Don. The health and viability of the club is tied pretty closely to season ticket sales. All indications are, those have plummeted. I don’t envy our poor season ticket sales crew, that’s a tough sell these days I’m sure. You are in a small minority and while I respect your position, these guys are going to have to work hard to convince most people that ‘19 is the year they should jump back in on a STH commitment. The sooner they start making the case for why people should expect great things in 2019, the better.

a reasonable combination of words and actions and yes! I learn a lot here too so I'm always interested in the cumulative wisdom of our forum, but if they at least said: "so sorry for that absolute stinker of a season, you know what, last year we simply weren't ready, underestimated the competition, etc., but now, now we realize what we need to do to be better and here's how we expect to spend the offseason making that happen, and, we will keep you informed and, we fully expect to be fighting for the cup next year. thanks for your support." that would be a good start, those season tickets aren't going to sell themselves. :D

Pretty much what Tom Fox said during his Q&A session with fans, shortly before the team acquired its new, highly-regarded coach.

Reasonable combination of words and action.

I’m willing to concede that was a great first step even though he’s not yet coached an MLS game. Hopefully he has excellent connections and a brilliant eye for talent and can point Jesse in the right direction. My guess, plenty of folks will be willing to buy individual game tix, I’m in that camp, but it’s going to take some skill and some big moves to sell season tix...the sooner they give folks reason to believe they intend to be competitive next year, the sooner they might be willing to consider going all in again.

It was a Q&A session with a select season ticket holders. Also, if people are not on BigSoccer, they would not even know that such a session took place.

If they're discussing the state of the team, the FO should do it proactively with ALL fans (whether you're a season ticket holder or not) and it doesn't even have to be in person. They can do a livestream or use one of many video conferencing tools to have Q&A sessions and questions could even be submitted ahead of time. This not only has the benefit of very low cost, but fans won't even have to fight traffic to get to an event.

Yeah, they could do that, I suppose. But if you're a tuned-out fan (by definition the person Quakes05 wants to receive outreach), how much mind-share are you going to devote to this subject in the offseason before the winter transfer window and before players return to camp and preseason starts? The team is going to have to sign new players and bring them into camp. The time for outreach is in late January and February when we have the formative outline of a new squad.

maybe we hear nothing because there’s nothing yet to report. That’s how the avg fan will read that, good luck boosting STH sales with the strategy of “let’s keep everyone in the dark after the worst season in Quakes history and once the next season is upon us, then we’ll let everyone in on our intentions”
they should be making the case now, no time to waste.

Does anyone really think people will change their minds on season tickets based on mute silence and vague intentions through Feb? Cmon

And technically, the season isn't even over yet. Can't remember off the top of my head, but can teams even sign players yet if they've been eliminated or do they have to wait until the official close of the season?

What if... both these statements are true?

The far more relevant point is, the MLS winter transfer window doesn't open until sometime in February, so there's not a whole lot that can be done right now.

First we'll have the Cincy expansion draft and the superdraft, and decisions made regarding players currently on the roster. As of today only one team has announced the latter:
    Revolution Announce Year-End Roster Moves

Irrelevant, they need to sign players NOW!!1! even if
