I don't understand. If Fioranelli is freeing up cap room to sign a new DP/international , does this mean Hyka will or won't be back?
Hyka is getting a green card, which means he won't be considered an international player on the roster, which makes an international spot open to sign another one. Hyka is under contract so it is not a question of being back or not, he is a Quake.
So green card holders are allowed on the field? I never knew that as I always believed there was a limit of internationals on the field. Guess it changed during the Bosman ruling but I was under the impression that only applied to EU players who were playing in Europe for over 5 years...
You mean the initial premise of MLS no longer exists? How about that! I was always under the impression the initial point of the single entity league was to create an atmosphere for American born players to showcase their talents. Also , to not make the same mistakes of the old NASL and/or another Cosmos fiasco and to avoid the signing of overpaid, overaged foreigners! Yeah I guess that was a different time. Funny how that era produced 7 straight World Cup teams and this era can’t even qualify...
Tl;dr version, green card means you’re American to the extent of working here. Hyka is as American as apple pie on the field.
https://www.sjearthquakes.com/post/...en-card-no-longer-occupies-international-spot He's got it. That's a bunch of them lately...
If you have a Green Card (which isn't all that green btw), you can legally work in the the US. I don't believe you can discriminate against a potential employee if they are a citizen versus a permanent visa (aka Green Card). The Bosman was more about the freedom to move at the end of a contract. But yes, there was a time in the early to mid nineties when there was limitations around numbers of international players which basically screwed English teams. I always thought it was simply to land the '94 World Cup. Great point on the lack of qualification last year mind.
That was the reason the league was discovered. Then the league preached their bylaws and goals.... Who can forget....... A single entity league where the owners own the entire teams and where the league pays all the contracts and dictates who plays where. The point was not to make the same mistakes of the old NASL and not import aging , overpriced foreigners , and to not emulate another New York Cosmos disaster. A place where American born players can showcase their talents and create an atmosphere so local fans can suppprt their own home grown players. The only competition will remain on the field and not in the front office.... Remember?
I wouldn't worry too much about it unless it get's discussed on Cable TV talking heads shows, little Donnie will never even know that Soccer exists.
On the Extra Time Radio podcast, they said that MLS teams are looking for bargain foreign imports who prostituted themselves (my words not ETR's) by playing in the Chinese leagues. Apparently the Chinese teams are trying to get rid of them, but no buyer is willing to pay the high prices the Chinese paid to bring them in. Buying clubs are only willing to pay true market price. ETR said that even 2nd and 3rd division clubs in China had imported players at high prices.
Hard to believe it took this long for it to happen and even harder to believe there were people who wanted MLS to start haphazardly spending in the same way. It's almost as if people don't learn the lessons of history.
Show me the Hyka. SHOW ME THE HYKA!!!!! That is all. Hyka on the field. He can be a sub. We get three subs a game, in case you weren't aware. And you can't save them! Isn't that crazy? If you only use one, you don't get five the next game. Yeah, you heard me. No compounding interest. No rainy day subs fund. So just put Hyka in. Remember that goal he scored in the dying seconds against Dallas last year? The goal without which we missed the playoffs and Dallas made them? We could have used one. He isn't magic. But he can dribble. Can you imagine him fresh against tired defenders? Yeah. Defenders are tired in minute 70. And you can use subs in any minute you want, Even 70. And Hyka could be that sub. And he could run against tired legs? Wouldn't that be amazing... If only there were some rule that allowed substitutions.
