After a fairly poor first touch, the rest of the touches were very compact and pretty fast, I thought. Superficially he certainly seems to move the ball, in a controlled fashion, MUCH more quickly than anyone else on the team.
I think Jesse said he's very fit and ready to go...it maybe was in an Eliott Almond article or tweet, but I can't remember for sure.
Great to hear, I'm hoping Hyka brings an LD level of vision and speed of play for Wondo. I'm cautiously optimistic those two will be at the same level of understanding. I'm anxious to see how well they combo.
In terms of attacking with the ball on the ground, I think Hyka and also Ureña are going to move the needle, and Dawkins had better get his stuff together. I've seen him do it with the best, but that was more 2011-12. Maybe having more attackers around him will help.
Yeah, I agree, Dawkins is capable of playing at a much faster clip, but we rarely see it. Maybe 3-4 times late in games last season. There is too much competition for him to mope through another season. It's put up or shut up time for him. I find it appalling that he gives up when the play breaks down. Very little effort to win the ball back, even when it is still in the same vicinity. Whereas Tommy will give you max effort on both ends. I hope Tommy puts Dawkins' butt on the bench. I would love to see Hyka and TT as opposite flank mids.
This is the only thing I saw... it was his first touch as a quake (or so twitter says): A look at Jahmir Hyka's first touches with #Quakes74 👀 pic.twitter.com/Mw7CQeDBDG— San Jose Earthquakes (@SJEarthquakes) February 21, 2017
looks like he was running back in a defensive way....and his first touch broke up a pass by the attacking(blue) team and he started the break the other way......
Don't see how that could be a pass to someone on Reno. Didn't seem like anyone was close. Maybe it was a deflection, which would explain his kind of awkward first touch - the ball coming to him unexpectedly. Anyway, clearly we are ready for the season to start, or to start seeing some real games. We have sunk to a new low: trying to draw broad conclusions about player based on a single possession. Pathetic!
Pathetic might be a bit harsh, maybe we are just desperate for some Quakes soccer I'm looking forward to seeing him and the quakes Saturday against SRFC !
Well there was that Reno player tracking back behing Hyka on his left as Hyka brought the ball up the field, could have been a very poor low weighted pass to him.
I suppose, the operative word there being "very", as the pass went a few feet from Hyka's feet. Most likely a deflection. He reacted to it very late, which means that it is unlikely an interception. He was not moving to the ball.
Damn it Don, you know better than that, you're poking the bear in the cage. Buy me a beer and all is forgiven.
#Quakes74 just completed a long day of training (the weather's finally cooperating). New midfielder Jahmir Hyka looks like the real deal.— Robert Jonas (@robertjonas) February 23, 2017
Robert Jonas isn't depth. He names names, which in my mind qualifies him to replace the soccer scribe at Sports Illustrated. And by "real deal," I take it Jonas means a foreign Muslim soccer player unafraid to come to the United States to play in MLS.

Dom calling him really good is pretty much effusive praise...basically wow! .can't wait to see him...hopefully he gets at least 20 min versus Sac.
He was pretty positive after Innocent's first few workouts too. "He's going to help us!" Just saying... I just hope we he can live up to all the hypa.
