As the world appeared in 2006 ... http://www.soccertimes.com/usteams/2006/men/mar11.htm "LAS VEGAS (Saturday, March 11, 2006) -- It's now official. Dr. Sunil has succeeded Dr. Bob as president of the United States Soccer Federation. Sunil Gulati was elected today to a four-year term as president at the USSF Annual General Meeting here. Bob Contiguglia, the Denver physician who has held the post since 1998, decided eight years was enough and did not run for re-election. In another major development today, the USSF executive committee was eliminated and the board of directors was reduced from 42 to 15. .... The move to reduce the size of the board was a particularly contentious issue. After hours of wrangling and consideration of five different motions, a compromise was reached and passed by acclimation. The board was reduced in size in an effort to have it more closely represent its three councils -- Professional, Youth, Adult -- and other constituencies. The 15 new board members will consist of the USSF president, vice president and treasurer, two members each from the adult, youth and professional councils, three former athletes, as well as one for groups not otherwise represented and two outside members. All five motions called for the end of the executive committee." The article only provides a glimpse of the power struggle that must have taken place, but it's still worth reading in full.
Can SG try to get anyone elected to one of those spots. I guess getting on the general council would be the first step, and there may already be supporters in there.

If we fail to make Russia, Sunil, Bruce, the entire board, the entire coaching staff, you, me, all big soccer posters, 11 random puppies and Klinsmann, should face a firing squad. Or watch the Wando miss for a month, Clockwork Orange style.
Wahl just did an interview with Sunil. Lots of softballs of course, Grant nibbles around the edges of tough questions without really getting to the heart of anything. Sunil will run again and Sunil will run unopposed again. http://www.si.com/planet-futbol/2017/02/07/sunil-gulati-donald-trump-travel-ban-world-cup-2026 Not Sunil specific, but Wahl's obsession with trump and the ban is really grating. Like asking Sunil if Trump will put the bid to host in jeopardy... after Russia and Qatar, two of the most actually repressive regimes in the world just got it. Which only highlights that Sunil is neck deep in the corruption that is FIFA and Wahl won't even ask simple questions about this stuff. Anyway, I for one welcome our new/same overlord and congratulate him on winning the forthcoming "election".
Sunil is paving the way for Americans to enjoy all the good stuff that comes with a President-for-Life...... there is good stuff...right?...
Not sure what Garber makes as commish of MLS, but it has to be a heckuva lot more than the non-paid position of USSF president.

Goff is reporting that Gulati might have a challenger in the 2018 election - Steven Gans, an attorney from Boston who has connections in the soccer community. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...nger-in-2018-election/?utm_term=.a14ad4c5e9cd

So that research does at least a bit to dispel my kneejerk reaction of "who is THIS guy??" I am not quite sure given what I'm reading, though, that his network really extends across the US Soccer spectrum and that everyone knows who he is. Also, it is clear he has a professional background (an initial concern over an opponent of Gulati would have been a return to status quo ante, someone who didn't have any feel for or connections in the pro game). In fact, it's most of his background.
Anyone know if Steven Gans is willing to put an end to playing our home games in front of hostile crowds? If so he has my vote.
