"He’s hoping his word smoothie will be enough to get everyone to argue amongst themselves and leave him alone."
Happy day for fans. Not happy days in the USSF. Klinsmann's firing, plus new coach hiring, is going to cost the USSF quite a bit of money. Many in USSF not happy with Sunil.
I would imagine that Arena, assuming it will be him, will earn at least $1 million a year. There's no going back to the days of Bob Bradley getting paid $600K after Klinsmann.
Just saw Gulati uneasily reading our Klinsmann hatemail on OTL. lol I'm going to credit us putting things in perspective for him that if not Klinsmann it would soon be him, because why not. It's more fun that way. I think making the right decision in the end warrants him buying time until the World Cup. If Arena proves to be the wrong replacement and can't at least steer us to qualification, then it should be off with Gulati's head.
Gulati just HAD to know Jack Warner was crook (everyone on these boards had known for years)....and did nothing...HAD to know Chuck Blazer was a crook for years...and did nothing...Gulati is either complicit or incompetent...I vote for both. Time for this clown to go....
Decent article how? It is a complete puff piece. Basically says Gulati is a wonderful, altruistic ambassador for the sport who is doing a very hard, complicated job that none of you peons would understand FOR FREE and he has do to extra economics lectures to make ends meet, poor guy. The only critisism of him is that he picked and hung on to Klinsmann, but the bulk of the article is about how he is such a stand up guy that he saw his mistake and was man enough to own up to it. It is an acurrate article in the sense that Gulati is doing a bang up job for the suits that actually elect and vote for him, so there is zero chance of him being replaced. It is a complely disengenious article in terms of actually addressing the critisism of the job he is doing from real fans.
Sunil overseas a Fed and structure which is anti-player development and anti-competition. There's little positive to say about the guy.
Another negative article, definitly seems to be more people getting it, for whatever good that will do. Reid: U.S. Soccer spinning its wheels, and it starts at the top with Sunil Gulati http://www.ocregister.com/articles/world-736341-arena-team.html
I imagine some of the penny pushers at USSF/SUM must be upset at Gulati du to the fact that Klinsmann just got a huge payout.
I wish to quibble with the article's judgement of MLS: it's a second rate league which produces third rate players.
Only the board gets to vote right? So basically you have to work on replacing the board, or at least getting them to agree with you. http://www.ussoccer.com/About/Governance/Board-of-Directors.aspx Realistically speaking, the first step may be the supporters groups and perhaps the USNT supporters group getting together and trying to figure out how to get one of their own as a board member, obviously there would have to be someone willing to do it and there would have to be agreement and would have to figure out on how to do it. perhaps challenging one of the adult, youth or Independent directors.
Eventually yes, it will be a line item in the tax forms, it may be mixed in with other expenses and not very clear how much belongs to the coach.
Garber and Agoos represent MLS, Papadakis represents USL Isn't Chris Ahrens a player Union guy? I assume Cindy Cone is a women player rep. Who knows who John Collins, Fabian Núñez and Donna E. Shalala are? or how did they get elected?
The by-laws in the link that you posted say that the officers are elected at the annual general meeting, not by the board.
Don't remember all the details, the the board used to be MUCH bigger, an unwieldy number, some would say. In one of SG's elections, the board was greatly down-sized in number, and possibly also 'stacked' in his favor.
