This is so ridiculous. It looks like we finally have enough talent coming up where these horrible minor league coaching options will be the weakest link instead of the MLS caliber players. I keep watching MLS games in hopes of seeing some semblance of tactical nuance but there is very little to be found. It is entertainment by for what it is but it is no platform for an international game. This guy seems like another stioge
Why do you think they're having the meeting? Ignore the caption - they're actually meeting to review the assembly manuals for all that flat-packed furniture just sitting in Earnie's new office.
First order of business for Earnie Stewart? We currently have vacancies in the U17, U18, U19, U23, and USMNT coaching positions. Olympic qualifying is now officially on the horizon. Our CONCACAF competition is all preparing. We don't have a coach and haven't conducted a single camp. By the way, people bash Tab Ramos a lot. But he's basically the only guy around that's been in a permanent position. He seems to now be the youth technical director, in charge of the USSF development academy curriculum, the coach at almost every youth level (can basically only focus on the U20s), head recruiter and scout, etc. etc. And people bash HIM when the USSF was asleep at the wheel in cases like Jonathan Gonzalez. He was literally the only person trying to get Jonathan Gonzalez. He probably was asleep due to exhaustion. The guy can't do everything! THe USSF and USMNT's biggest problem during the last WCQing cycle was simply...………….complacency. I haven't seen that change under the new regime. Where is the sense of urgency? Its not really about the USMNT coach. We have a bit of time before the USMNT plays a meaningful game. But we have all sorts of youth competitions that are damn important. How about the CONCACAF U17 Championships next spring. Bradenton doesn't exist anymore. So who is doing the scouting, recruiting, and player evaluation right now for the U17s. I have no clue. Who is out there recruiting Efrain Alvarez and other dual nationals? Tab Ramos can't be the answer for everything.
What I don't understand is why there is a coach hiring freeze. We were told that the GM would not be involved with the Youth teams. That the YNTs have their own GM/TD (currently Ramos). So, why freeze hiring? Who has the power to freeze hiring? Why isn't Ramos given a budget for these things and he makes the decision? If Ramos is not controlling the money, he is not in charge of anything. Does Stewart have a budget he controls? If not, who does? Why isn't any of the usual media suspects not getting someone on the phone to comment on who ordered a hiring freeze and for what logical (or illogical) reason?
The answer to your question is simple: rock the boat and USSF will take away your media pass, making the job super hard, if not impossible.
Stewart gets an "F" until he hires a full-time USMNT manager, right? That's certainly how I look at it. So far, all he's done is pose for a photo op with him and a couple guys "discussing the player pool". We do that here on Bigsoccer, color me unimpressed. And the lack of leaks? Methinks nothing is happening, rather than the Federation working and tight-lipped behind the scenes....
Get used to this. Stewart runs a VERY tight ship. There were hardly ever any rumors about player signings while he was in charge in Philly. Most if not ALL leaks occurred AFTER a deal had been completed. The guy hasn't even been on the job two weeks yet.................sheesh
Just realized we play Brazil in 4 weeks so ofc they are discussing player pool. This window is most difficult one in terms of "situations" for different players in Europe - not so much for MLS players.
We are rushing so hard to march into the long term that we might just have a chance to keep pace with evolution in the mid-Proterozoic..........
Given the quality of Philly's signings, Stewart's obsession with not letting people know makes perfect sense........
It's been almost a year since we failed to qualify. That is more than enough time to create a long list of qualified candidates. It is not a "rush". The fact that we aren't even in the interview stage, nor do we have any indication that coaches are being approached is not good. I'm not going to give anyone associated with the USSF the benefit of the doubt w/r/t competence. I could believe that Stewart is simply able to control rumors and avoid leaks, but the more-likely scenario is that USSF is simply not prepared to hire a manager whatsoever. They don't have a shortlist. They don't have a clue.
Agree with your post up to the bolded part. I feel it's more likely they already have their candidate and are just biding time until 2019.
I would be more receptive to that idea if we'd had any indication that such was the case. If we were only looking at MLS candidates, that would've been leaked at some point over the last 10 months, I have to imagine....
