Hmmm... I did a quick check of transfer windows and: The USA FIFA xfer window does not open until February so it is not likely an American player from another MLS Club since MLS appears to use the FIFA calendar; Interesting South American countries (Brazil, Argentina, Peru etc.) do not open their transfer window until mid-January; Most European Clubs (England, France, Germany, Spain) open their xfer window today so it could be a European player; However, Mexico opens their window today as well. Given our new coach and his contacts, I predict it is a Mexican signing. The question is who. We'll find out tomorrow .
In terms of players who have been linked to the Quakes recently.... Best case scenario: 1080287429595025410 is not a valid tweet id(although signing a drunk underachiever as a DP is not ideal either) Worst case scenario: I sure as hell hope this isn’t a tease of Galindo JR.— Mike Kleeman (@KleemanMike) January 2, 2019 I'm not sure Alan Pulido has been rumored anywhere, but someone mentioned him in the replies: Any chance someone like Alan Pulido? Too expensive? Seems like he is ready to move somewhere. Chivas and Mexican national team player. @rSJEarthquakes— Kletter (@kletter) January 2, 2019 Carlos Salcido? Recently left Chivas, played for El Tri, relationship with Almeyda... sort of a Rooney, Kaka, Villa type move? @rSJEarthquakes @blue_bleeding @JDMcCall1 @QuakesFan— Kletter (@kletter) January 2, 2019 This would be even worse than Galindo Jr (unless he's joining the coaching staff) because the dude is 38...
Hopefully Matias can get this kid to his full potential..... “I’ve known Cristian since his days with Huracán and have had the pleasure of watching his development over the years,” said Earthquakes head coach Matias Almeyda. “I believe San Jose is a place he can thrive and make the next jump in his career. We’re looking forward to his contributions to the club and helping him realize his full potential.”
Season long loan. Doesn't say with or without a buy option. I was under the impression that MLS only allows loans with options to buy.
I agree numbers don't look great - but at some point, Villareal rated him. So he couldn't crack the first team there - no big surprise. Then loans can be a a crap shoot, depending on the team's incentives to play young players. The quakes appear to have plenty of playing time for a guy like him. I hope he thrives.
1. Not a 2nd division player 2. Got appearances and goals for Boca Jr first team. 3. 23 years old 4. Highlights look like he has some speed Conclusion: thumbs up. Upgrade over Magnus.
His size and stat numbers look like Tommy Thompson’s (more assists than goals for a forward). Personally I’d have rather seen TT play those minutes
The most interesting piece of this is it seems to be another Matias Almeyda signing. Villarreal obviously weren't impressed with what they got so have been trying to tempt a club with loans. I presume Almeyda feels he can get the best out of him, and players like this tend not to peak until they're around 23 years old, so hey.
Looks like a composed finisher (that touch over the on rushibg goalie was very nice), seems comfortable with using either foot, great balance, can skin a defender 1v1, showed good vision and touch on crosses, looks to be pretty quick/ agile but it's not clear how much speed he has on the open field. Also not clear what his defensive workrate/ ability is like but Villarreal spent a good amount of money on him and the stats on loan in La Liga weren't bad for the minutes he played. Pretty sure all MLS loans from outside the league have to have an option for purchasing. given that, either villareal is prepared to take a massive hit on their eight million dollar investment or the quakes might just be starting to spend some serious money
He is a winger, more than a forward, which was one of the positions Almeyda was looking to fill. Judson checked the box on d-mid, so, next up should be left back. I picture him as a direct replacement for Eriksson on the right, (why isn't he gone yet??). Will be interesting to see what his work rate is, and his speed in the open field, (though any player signed would be an up over Magnus in that department). I wonder what kind of a formation Almeyda trots out. 4-2-3-1? 4-4-2?
Does the transfer window have to be open before Mags can be sold? So far both signings have been loans (guessing that is not affected by window dates).
I know in Uefa you can continue to sign players until February and I’ve seen even March. I can’t recall though if those were players who were out of contract or not but I’ve seen teams sign players in those months.
I'M an upgrade over magnus and unlike our new player I haven't been loaned out to several different clubs.
