My friends and relatives when visiting from Europe stated that my HS, Del Mar resembled something out of the storybooks. He said only elite and wealthy affluent kids would go to such schools anywhere in Europe. By comparison to the rest of the world, I don't think many 2nd, 3rd and 4th division clubs can compare to the facilities our HS, JR Colleges and Universities offer.
"Miami voters clear path for Inter Miami to negotiate lease for new stadium" (MLSsoccer.com - Wednesday, 11/7/18) (Inter Miami CF) GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
I agree, i was very sad to realize that rich guys used taxpayers money to build this training center that largely benefits them, not USSoccer.
Oversimplification. The money, as I understand it, is borrowed and then repaid using proceeds from the project. The idea is that it enables projects to move forward more rapidly than with private financing. However, not everyone is on board with it: http://www.kcur.org/post/kansas-lawmakers-giving-star-bonds-economic-incentives-hard-look#stream/0 And also, it's easy for us to see these kinds of projects through a Bay Area lens. For residents of Kansas City, it's a source of pride. Also note that the prior training center was 25 miles away, in another state, and I guess they figured that it they were going to do it, they wanted to do it right.
This thread seemed more appropriate for this post.... Looking at today’s 75 degree November weather, I don’t see how anyone in the country wouldn’t want to be playing at Avaya’s beautiful outdoor stadium with natural grass. Especially for the big time international stars. If and when they get over novelty of playing in the Big Apple or Disneyland ,who wouldn’t want to bask and score goals in today’s Silicon Valley climate?
Nice weather is great (I definitely like it), but if that was such a key factor for players, I don't think you'd see many players in places like Manchester, Liverpool, Dortmund, Munich or even London...
Not really. A 75 degree day in July is not the same as it would be in November when the sun in a lot lower. Two different types of heat. Considering most playoff games are played at night, the weather right now, is in fact perfect for soccer....
The initial reason why Chivas USA folded was because Ted Chronopoulos and Dan Calichman sued the club for discrimination against them. They were both harassed because of their "national origin, ethnicity , race" , emotional distress and wrongful termination...….
It was a horrendous idea. In and around 2005/06, I remember specifically posting how the all Latin- Hispanic team would be discriminatory. Not that many people cared initially though as they drew well in their first year. It was all because at the time, Garber was starving for new investors that he went after Vergara.
The discrimination cut both ways. Back in 2009, I believe, I attended the Chivas USA game at Buck Shaw with a former legal secretary of Mexican-American descent, who I've invited many times over the years and who attends games in full Quakes regalia. She invited a couple colleagues from her new firm. They were also of Mexican descent but were Chivas de Guadalajara fans who arrived at the game sporting their colors. My former secretary tried to meet up with her friends in the Corona Cove bar area, but the Chivas fans, demure women barely five feet in stature, were not allowed into the area, purportedly for fear of "incidents." The secretary knew from experience this was out of the ordinary, since fans from other teams had heretofore always been allowed into the Corona Cove area, and she cried racism, which was a logical supposition under the circumstances. I cannot remember whether security relented or not during the game, but my former secretary was so irate that she insisted afterward that I lodge a complaint directly with David Alioto, which I did. As far as I know the problem was solved thereafter.
Is that the Avaya Stadium visitors' locker room where Chris Wondolowski and Baby Judas conducted that interview? Waiting for next season like... ⏳#WondoWednesdays ⚫️🔵 pic.twitter.com/EOUFF9LBfk— San Jose Earthquakes (@SJEarthquakes) November 7, 2018 GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
