Rereading this, I see it could be misunderstood. I did not use the word "crooked" in the slang sense of "criminal", I merely meant it was a long, not-straight meandering road which took longer than expected.
I wonder how you value/price naming rights for the Quakes stadium, and if it matters that the major occupant team consistently sucks? Is $2M per year a good price?
If there are people in the seats and the name is view-able from broadcast, then I'm sure the sponsors don't care if the team sucks or not.
Hmm what if the Quakes can’t find a stadium sponsor, like when we had nothing on the jerseys? What would the stadium name be for the interim? Arthur Blank would get some free naming rights? We don’t actually have a default name, fo we? Just some idle speculation
Judging from past such MLS occurrences as Columbus Crew Stadium (now Mapfre Stadium) and Orlando City Stadium, it'd most likely be San Jose Earthquakes Stadium. Hopefully a new naming-rights sponsor will be found prior to 2019, though. GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Ideally, the next name will avoid the word "Stadium," which is too grandiose for our little Clubhouse. I would prefer "Field" (Soldier Field), or better yet, "Epicenter."
That’s a pretty good idea, except then when you google San Jose Earthquakes Epicenter you will get a lot of geologic stuff!
Armstrong Painting and Roofing Stadium. Naming rights in exchange for finishing the roof and installing the siding.
Finding a replacement naming sponsor may prove difficult because Fox wants the commitment to be open-ended to match the stadium.
Lagunitas Field.....Sierra Nevada Stadium.....Golden State Brewery Epicenter ......just thinking/wishing out loud....
Woody Hayes on Avaya Stadium: "I like three yards and a cloud of dust. It has three sides and the cloud."
Lagunitas could afford to be our stadium sponsor since they are wholly owned by Heineken. Sierra Nevada perhaps could, since they had revenues of $250 million a year in 2014. (In comparison, Avaya had revenue of $3.7 billion in 2016.) Golden State probably couldn't afford to sponsor magnet schedule night, let alone a $2 million+ per year stadium naming sponsorship.
No High School Soccer Series this year? The Quakes announced last year's series on 12/2/16: https://www.sjearthquakes.com/post/...-host-high-school-soccer-series-avaya-stadium
