Kaval told us the wind is shunted down from the top and underneath the "bowl" seating on the Earthquakes Way side. This creates a Venturi effect. If you sit in the Club area where those couches are, you get blown on pretty good. I suppose the open end of the concourse adds more turbulence as well.
A LOBINA at Tottenham Spurs may be building the longest bar in the UK at their new stadium. Who said their partnership with SJ was dead? #Quakes74 #COYS pic.twitter.com/XOQ6cAtUjT— Zach (@SomeCruzDude) June 19, 2017
The beauty of LOBINA is that you can hang out and watch the game. With the prohibition of having alcohol within sight of the pitch in the Premier League, who cares? It's just a big-ass interior bar that happens to be in a stadium.
Also, since the LOBINA is outdoor and visible to everyone, we can tell ourselves the stadium is only half full because of the folks hanging around there. Not sure you can do the same with an indoor bar.
Rotary Club of San Jose held their weekly lunch at Avaya Stadium today (6/21/17) -- burgers and dogs in the moat. Danielle Slayton was the keynote speaker. Club members who had not been before all loved the stadium. Several said they would contact me about attending a game. Interestingly (and I kid you not), the feature most admired in comments I received was the randomized seat color palate. A whole range of other features were admired, including from those who had been to the game before, the Ultras ("Is that what they're called? I just refer to them as the crazies"). Club members were somewhat taken aback when I confessed to being one of them.
LAFC Elevates The Matchday Experience, Unveiling Safe Standing Supporters' Section LAFC has announced supporters' section pricing and unveiled plans for safe standing at Banc of California Stadium. On match-days supporters will stand shoulder-to-shoulder, creating an electric and unified stadium atmosphere. At 34°, the Supporters' Section will be the steepest in MLS. The section is the only true safe standing on the West Coast. The first-of-its-kind rail seating system was designed for comfort, safety, and improved sight lines. Supporters’ Section Memberships will be priced at $20/match. Become an LAFC Supporter at https://LAFC.com/supporters.
Too bad we didn't listen to the supporter groups. We should have had a wall of fans top to bottom....the only way to go.
Kaval isn't the sort who is prepared to listen to everybody. I think that at the Stanford GSB they instill and reinforce the notion that they know better than anybody else...
I like the idea of these safe-standing walls, but it does reduce the ability to use the venue for other events where you want an all-seated venue. If they'd done a better version of the terraces it would have been fine. I'm more jealous of what appears to be a proper-looking roof. My oh my--how ever will they keep those panels clean? How will the grass beneath them ever grow?
Great question! I can't say for certain that an all-standing area similar to Orlando would or would not have worked for the promoters of rugby or a neutral-site non-Quakes soccer match. The Wall in Orlando is 3800 of 25,500 seats. Less significant of an overall impact than if the Quakes had done 2000-2500 of their 18K allowed capacity as standing only.
Many of the safe-standing terraces in Europe have built-in fold-up chairs in the rails so that they can be converted to all-seater sections when required. The pictures I have seen of Orlando don't have this, but possibly they could be installed. It is hosting a World Cup qualifier in October.
It would be nice to see these safe-standing terraces with built in folding chairs installed in the supporters terrace and the Ultras area at Avaya.
I'm being lazy because I don't want to go through 198 pages to look for an answer....but when Avaya wall planned.....is there an actual blueprint for expanded capacity? Or if they did want to expand would they be starting from ground zero? Didn't know if there was any way to build seating up on both sides of LOBINA without blocking it....at the current rate LOBINA might be making more money than season ticket revenue....
I'm not aware of any actual plans committed to paper for potential expansion of Avaya, nor is there any likelihood of such an expansion in the foreseeable future.
modern world rant: wish we had a coffee shop at Avaya. we can have 30+ bartenders, but can't have two baristas cranking out espresso drinks? the $4.50 cup of coffee at the concessions sucks. and all you get is creamer and sugar packets...ugh. will be complaining to Jared
funny should bring this up, while at the KC game my wife and I were surprised there wasn't a Peet's (or similar) coffee kiosk at Avaya ......
While you're at it, tell him to bring in a fresh kettle corn vendor instead of the stale stuff we keep buying. BTW, I finally tried the vegan pizza on Wed, and it was pretty bad. I've also tried the kielbasa with all the toppings on it. While that is OK, the grease almost killed me. So after these 2 experiments, I guess I'm sticking with stale kettle corn and a stadium dog. Woof
