Iraq and Qatar are unknown territory. South korea, Japan and Australia has downgraded a lot from past. They are also struggling with weak teams which is weird to see. I think Iran might have best chance to win whole tournament.
that is the question of the hour my man. will Bento start the better keeper here on out? KSG did nothing wrong, but the clean sheets we all know, flatter him.
very true. however, Philippines, Krygyzstan and China. they did their jobs, but we were never really tested. against better and real (sorry CHN) opposition, let's see if they can continue being the CH duo we've been waiting for.
Even Spain and Portugal had difficulties when they did that. Korea can only hope that they stumble somewhere along the line as they are even more vulnerable against skilled grassrolling bus-parking Arab-pedigreed teams. Iranians are snickering at Korea for having to face 2 Arab teams in a row but they don't realize other countries are afraid of Iran for precisely the same reason, grassrolling, bus parking tactics of Iran. They appear to breathe a sigh of relief because Oman's coach is Veerbeek. It is true Oman under Veerbeek are less likely to grassroll compared with other Arab teams but Veerbeek is a defense specialist. He led Korea in 2007 to a Bronze when Korea scored a total of 3 goals in the tournament, all of them in the group stage. He tied Iran in a grueling OT match and beat them in a PK shootout. Korea at that time were missing Park JS and Park JY. LDG barely recovered and did not play in that match. Also grassrolling is sometimes beyond the manager's control; old habits die hard. While there is 0 chance Oman will beat Iran in a fair game they can pull an upset in a PK shootout. Even if Korea get knocked out before the final I will root for Iran's opponents even if they are Japan. Their nearly 50 year tradition of not reaching the final should go intact. If someone likes Iran and is friendly with them, he is too young to have witnessed what they said about Koreans or... he is rkim.
Bento wont change the starting 11 that much. Dont expect him to play new faces at all. CHW wont play. LSW wont play. LY will prob start as well.
I fear that this festival-like mood can abruptly end next week when Korea are upset by a minnow. Right now it is all good and joyous. I will treasure these moments.
Sorry but I don't think Jo Hyun-woo is very good. I don't see what the fuss is about him. To me, he's on par with Kim Seung-gyu but Kim is the better passer.
I disagree. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. KSG = better passer, better on the ball and more experienced. CHW = Better reflexes, jumping/diving, ball handling, and better shot stopper.
in terms of athleticism required to shot block, from what i've seen no contest. But i certainly don't watch J League and don't get a chance to see him (KSG) play regularly. the biggest factor for me personally tho, wanting CHW to get starts is, not only did he show on the biggest stage (WC & AG) his ability to make critical saves (and make the flashy saves which he does reg for Daegu) but his positioning and decision making is really good. some calm and authority in the 6 yd box we'd been missing for quite some time before this summer. for long spells our keepers have made horrible decisions about when to leave their line, when to go up in the air and snag a ball or when to punch out. and with the D we were playing, it put even further pressure on our back line. plus, now that we're in the knockouts, CHW also has a knack for stopping pens. that alone could become a huge factor going fwd if we want to finally lift the cup. agree tho, in our first 3 games, KSG was very good at outlet passing. but we've not been tested yet by a good team.
KSG shouldve been dropped when he let in that weak goal during the Australia friendly. Bento is too stubborn
BREAKING: Lee Chung-yong flying back to Korea today for family reasons. He's due back Sunday at the KNT camp in UAE. As tournament scheduling logistics go, Korea plays Bahrain (3rd place in Group A ) for the Round of 16 on Tuesday - kickoff 7pm GST (8am US EST)— The Old Tavern Owner (@taeguk_warrior) January 18, 2019
anyone who cant see who the better shot stopper is between two should just scrap this soccer thing altogether and go watch another sport. shortly put, kim seungkyu has poor positioning and has butter fingers. most shots he saves he punches them which just leads right back to opponent possession or worse rebound opportunities for the opposition. in contrast cho hyunwoo is always in great position and catches the shots on goal. cho hyunwoo also deals with aerial bound balls better despite being smaller in size this gif exemplifies everything wrong for a no 1 keeper. a) positioning bad and b) butter fingers. inability to deal with a ball that was not well taken nor made physically difficult by a opposing player. cho hyunwoo was completely free of any fuss like this against against world cup oppositions
I was wth. Literally, I saw CHW catching balls exactly like this in the WC. CHW is more lighter/agile and can get to more difficult balls. Someone needs to replay the WC matches to Bento.
