I don't think that's accurate. Our net spend the last two summers has been in the 40 million quid range. Each summer. Add in the Gabriel and Monreal signings, and we've spent close to 100 million quid since RVP was sold. Hardly scrimping.

The 140 million number doesn't hold up to much scrutiny: that's a snapshot as to what the club had on hand at one instant: that can't be taken as a feasible transfer fund because:

    1) Much of that money is used to pay for on going expenses during the season.
    2) The club has to keep a significant cash reserve on hand for its outstanding debts.
    3) Any transfer requires taking a signing's wages into account.

We can't expect a net spend of more than 40 million this summer.

The 140m figure was from February, and doesn't include the cash reserve for outstanding debts. The total figure was 162 million. At the end of the season expect a cash balance of over 200 million.

And while the purchases of Ozil and Sanchez have been impressive, Wenger once again hobbled the club by not keeping necessary depth. Just keeping Coquelin and Jenkinson in the squad from the beginning might have staunched that disastrous run of results caused by the injuries to Debuchy, Koscielny and Arteta. The Gabriel transfer was essentially shutting the barn door after the horse had bolted. We needed another defender in August, not January. Everyone knew that, but Wenger scrimped.

I wouldn't be surprised if both Santi and Nacho were shipped back to Spain. If Wenger wants to recoup the fees for either of them the time is now.

    Martinez 25
    Carvalho 20
    Cech 10
    _________
    55 million
    - Santi 15

    = 40 million net spend.

    Sounds good to me.

I'm knee deep in MGD because of the Hawks game.

    Cheers.

We had the worst start to a season in like 50 yrs and are still managed 3rd. And really who give a sh*t from 2nd or 3rd. At least we have a trophy and not close clinging to 4th on the last day.

Guy you do know Martinez is turning 29 later this year. Why not get a younger CF like Lacazette, Carlos Bacca ?

Spending it isn't the issue. Spending it on a player who may or may not help you for one season, let alone 5 seasons, is.

Again, if a truly elite center forward is available, buy him. But why spend that kind of money on a player who would be hard pressed to improve on Giroud's production and who will be toast in a couple seasons, anyway?

Bacca is a whole year younger than Martinez and not as good.

None of the guys everybody is talking about is as big an improvement over Giroud as Reus or Fekir would be over our nonexistent wide position opposite Alexis.

I think people have forgotten what it's like trying to buy star players from Lyon.

Atlanta can't stop Lebron, as simple as that.
Houston was shocking last night vs the Warriors, they simply capitulated.

I think he was talking about the Chicago Blackhawks rather than ATL. Forgot there were 2 Hawks in the playoffs right now.

Cheaping out is not the same as insisting on quality. The last two windows have suggested that Wenger is NOT cheap, but rather cautious when it comes to transfers. And, let's face it, we don't have the best track record of suggesting players to sign on this board.

How many here suggested signing Benteke or Fellaini? Or Scott Parker and Clint Dempsey?

Also: regarding depth, we have an enormous squad. Jenks was third in the right back depth chart at the beginning of the season. Ahead of Bellerin. Coquelin was behind Ramsey, Wilshere, Arteta, and Flamini.

Yeah its gonna be crazy when the city settles for more money than Sefelosha has earned in his career if NYC lawyers are smart they will give Thabo $60 mill and make him sign an agreement to never say anything

Got it now. I totally forgot the Sefolosha shocking incident.
The sorry part is while the city and the taxpayers will foot the bill,
the police officer will most likely will be untouched.

That's something that has to change. Settlements for police brutality should be paid out of police retirement funds.

And what about the verdict in Cleveland yesterday? Shocking... but actually not.
