I think he needs to be playing top level football to develop as I feel these loans to smaller teams rarely work out. Can't really think of a case where a player went on loan to a smaller team, absolutely tore up the league and came back a hero.

Carvajal maybe and Casemiro was only given a chance by Zidane. Even the likes of Harry Kane when on loan did nothing special and only achieved success when his club gave him a chance.

Playing in the dutch league is a waste of development. He should go to BuLi, Ligue 1 or EPL.

Bundesliga is a major coin toss though. I like what Kovac does with young players in Frankufrt, but other clubs are a total circus. Hamburg did nothing for Halilovic (and he did nothing for Hamburg, basically).

Shitty shitty news. He's definitely not advancing in the trajectory that we had projected. At this rate, he's going to top out as a mid-level (still good nonetheless) player in a Europa League side.

Damn, that's a shame. Hope he'll be ready for pre-season.

Any news on him? From what I have seen he has improved his game substantially last season. Is he going to stay in the team?

I was wondering about this as well. Still injured?

Still only 19 years old, by the way. I think he should be loaned out to a decent La Liga team.

He’ll most likely have the preseason with us and then a decision will be made.

Seems like he's already training with the team. They had a clip of him assisting Benz with a backheel on Instagram today.

I still like him more on the right where he has more space to do trickery and cut inside for a cross or through ball. I'd really like to see him back, he was overhyped as a kid but he is coming along and progressing.

I really think Odegaard has elite level vision, passing and technique. He's already better than the large majority of our players in that department. I believe in him, but am somewhat disappointed he went for another Eredivisie stint.

His quality does shine through, regardless of the level of opponents. We probably need to take a chance on him next season. Odegaard has qualities that we simply lack (Isco lacks the pin-point passing and (TBH also) vision), Modric is getting older, Asensio is being wasted on that left wing and that's it). Sometimes I see things in Odegaard's game that are simply bizarre (as in, I only saw a handful of players in my life doing them), e.g. the 'Guti-pass' that no one thought existed, the 'Messi-pass' that everyone sees but simply thinks it's impossible to give (because 10 player seem to be in front of the passing lane) etc.

Next season is huge for Odegaard, I really hope he makes it. We need more of these 'pure' / oldschool football players.

Yea. I don't know why he chose Dutch League again rather than joining one of the Madrid teams(Leganes, Rayo, Getafe) like Oscar did. Would have helped him adapt to Madrid as well as play against tougher competition.

I agree on all points. His combination of dribbling and passing ability is rare these days. It's very tough to contain such players who can dribble out of any situation and can give a killer pass at the same time. (For eg James can give such passes but he is not much of a dribbler while Isco can dribble out of any situation but his passing is not as consistent) Odegaard's through balls are a thing of beauty. Reminds me so much of Messi through balls.

Do we know it was his decision rather than management concern about him getting enough playing time?
