He got a shutout last Wednesday (my comment about 147 was on Tuesday) so he's at 148, and was 90 seconds from 149 on Saturday. We've given up two goals total in our last four games. Only two wins in that time though. You should do better in a run with a 0.5 GAA.
Putna should get that time if we expect to go with him next year. If not, then it doesn't really matter and we should probably instead have Ochoa on the bench.
Are there any other records he can honestly obtain this year? Because, not to sound insensitive, if there isn't he should be playing only a handful of games the rest of the season. He'll start every single one, probably, because of course... but he should be rotated out in an ideal world with a coach and a GM who have thoughts beyond lunch
Since he got the 150 shutout record, a nice round number, we should play him only during the home games and let someone else play the away games. If RSl makes the playoffs, he can go back to playing all the games.
I would bench him only if the player we think we're going into 2020 with is on the roster. I would rest him to get whoever the backup will be (Ochoa or Horvath or Putna) some games.
Kind of hard to know for sure if either of those guys is "the guy" if you don't give them a chance, no? I understand that you don't always sign a quality backup GK and go with the thought of them being a fill-in for a few games a year. But that isn't the situation this club has been in or was at all in for this season. If we don't have an expected 2020 GK on the roster already then Waibel is even more dumb than I thought... and I think he's pretty ********ing dumb
So, City of Sandy has named a street near RioT "Rimando Way". Does anyone know if it's a dead end street, as it should be? <grin> https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019...-tinto-stadium-named-real-salt-lake-legendary
its the road that runs around the stadium from State to 94th. so, unfortunately, no, its not a dead end. But it allows you a look at goal but never gets you into the actual building... thats a stretch
Really hope it wasn't the last time we get to chant his name, but if it was, it was pretty special and well done
What an MLS Legend! Hope he remains active in the soccer world. Many years of excellent goalkeeping and spectacular saves, sadly underappreciated by many for recognition/awards and the USMNT. Kudos to the RSL supports for the TIFO.
MLS needs to name the Goal Keeper of the year award after Nick. It just has a nice ring to it. "This years winner of the Rimando is..."
his post game speech after the last regular season home match made it sound like he is taking time away from the sport. At least that is how I interpreted it. That's not to say he won't be involved later on, but I would imagine after 20 years of doing this he could use a break.
Rimando never played for LA or NY so the GK award can never be named after him. The Don: Good news everyone! We are renaming the Goalkeeper of the Year award to... ... The David Beckham Award! MLS Lackey: But... Beckham wasn't a keeper... The Don: Yeah, but he played for LA... MLS Lackey: Mmmmmkay but what about someone like Nick Rimando? I mean, he has all those records and he, you know, actually played goalkeeper... The Don: You've given me a lot to think about. Much appreciated. --The Next Day-- The Don: MLS is excited to announce that the Goalkeeper of the Year Award will be henceforth known as... ... ... The Michael Magee Award!
.... ok? Rimando seems to be a consensus vote for best MLS GK ever. Even guys like Howard say so. Naming the award after him, after years of skipping over him for a guy who had a single hot season before returning to average (looking at you Melia) seems only a fitting way of saying sorry.
Rimando isn't even on the finalist list for GotY. Warshaw thinks they should give it to him anyway https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019/10/14/warshaw-rating-2019-mls-awards-finalists
