Saw this new article on ESPN quoting Cordeiro saying that the USMNT will have a GM in a couple weeks. The article also says that the USSF is forming a Technical Development Committee that will be co-chaired by Bocanegra and Angela Hucles.
The technical committee should not be co-chaired by an Atlanta United execut$ve. Bad idea. This is going all wrong. We are not qualifying with Bocanegra on any technical committee. Please, no.
Yeah I mean, Boca getting more power after he was a key figure in getting the athletes council vote is SHOCKING. This is a classic rearrange to move power around. To placate fans in hopes that the anger fades after the last 3 years of crap of usmnt. The GM will get the blame first and since they also rearranged the board with specialized roles, that's the next target. Then maybe the President of the Fed. No more revolt like Sunil had to deal with. And what is the GM going to do when the coach is hired and the TD is doing that? Just a waste of money.
I'd like to get this guy into the system: Matias Almeyda. Here's a link to a well written (for once) article on the guy. It says he is learning English. He was linked to Europe and Chile national team last year. His playing career started in Argentina and topped out with plenty time in Serie A with Lazio, Parma, Inter in central midfield. He was a teammate of Pochettino and Simeone in Marcelo Bielsa's Argentina side at the 2002 World Cup - www.espn.com/soccer/mexican-liga-mx/22/blog/post/3332617/chivas-hope-for-more-trophies-with-matias-almeyda-before-he-goes-to-Europe Maybe we could make him technical director while he learns English and gets to know the youth teams and the youth set up, then take over from Sarachan when it seems right. At that stage he could give the Tech Dir job to Schweinsteiger. Giving him the Gold Cup 2019 would familiarize him with Concacaf competition.
