Nacho Monreal has been the last 12 to 15 months the most solid, consistent Arsenal playe, not to mention that, very unlike Arsenal, he is basically never injured :).
In addition to being a standout defensively, he is a major part of the attack forming with Alexis on the left side a potent and dangerous pair. The guy has been simply sensational this year and deserves our appreciation. Last night again, he was on top of his game, shutting down his side and forcing the penalty. Top player, great lad and for my money the best LB in the EPL! Keep it up Nacho and you will be a Gunner Legend! You deserve this appreciation thread!

He is an absolute rock solid performer game in and game out. I'm continually impressed by his defensive ability. I forget who said it, but someone said a few games ago that they lose count of the number of times Nacho wins a tackle and leaves the other player on the ground with the strength of the challenge, all without fouling.

    A truly excellent player.

I don't feel comfortable with Nacho starting in CB or LB. He can't read the game, and his tackling is average. Not to mention he is very bad with the ball on his feet.

I would love if we were to sign De Ligt and Militoa this summer. Vallejo and Nacho are not Madrid quality.

I'm aware - saw this zombie get resurrected, so figured he deserved a come back alert. This place is becoming a ghost town.

I'd like to counter the above view by saying Nacho is still a big net plus. Sure he's lost a step or two, but he's by far our best LB. Kola's not even in the convo IMHO.

That said, it would be foolish for our management not to bring in a top-tier LB and let the 2 of them duke it out. At Monreal's age, I'd be surprised if he was too upset to play the backup role to someone younger/better than him.

He's lost more than a step or two, unfortunately. Adrian Clarke's "Breakdown" on Arsenal player was interesting in that he noted how most of Spudz attacks were down our left side, targeting Monreal and Iwobi. I'd still agree that he's a better defender than Kolasinac, but the latter has closed that gap in recent performances so there's no way I'd agree that he's "not even in the convo."

I think a left back and a center back should be priorities. Not sure if the front office agrees.

They certainly focused on attacking him today. Granted when we went down a man, he was getting almost no help. But he shouldn't be our first choice LB next season. Bad summer if he is.

I think most of us agree on that. I wish I had real confidence that our owners & managers were poised to do the right thing.

Well, as it looks like Monreal might possibly be shipped out in a matter of days, I decided to give him a little thanks.

OK, he's not the best LB in the world, but he's been a very good, steady & dependable starter for us for years now. That's not something you can say about a lot of his current teammates.

He's also one of the good guys. He plays with honesty and seems to live his life that way in general. As for class acts in our back line, it's probably a toss up between him & Hector. (I used to think Laurent was in that category... then July happened)

Whatever is coming in your near future Nacho, we wish you all the good luck that you deserve!

I enjoyed watching Nacho lead the young lads out of the pre-match tunnel in Charlotte, chirping and pointing and making his presence known.

He is definitely a leader and I'm sure the Arsenal were better for having him all these years.

Nacho wasn't on the bench today (I guess the buying club wouldn't allow that) and I didn't notice any rumored send-off for him. Was there any?
