Exactly, which is a major reason this site is popular. Pretty much anywhere other than Citi Field/Willets, we need not only 9-12 acred for the stadium, but we would need probably an additional 10-15 acres for parking structures. If you can find a 20-25 acre plot or two semi-contigous lorain NYC, you can enjoy looking at it while someone comes along and spends $1b to get it first for housing or office space.
Nope, they would need the garage, the gal site (while paying to relocate them within the Bronx)the surface lot, the street closed and the highway off-ramp rerouted or eliminated. That's a lot of obstacles. Bottomline, this stadium will cost more than any MLS stadium to date, probably before they even start the stadium build. Clearing the garage, buying the land, paying off the elevator parts company, compensating the city for road reconfiguration will greatly exceed $150m most likely.
Where do Mets fans park? It seems if the Citi Field area can already handle 81 Mets games it could handle 17ish NYCFC games.
It certainly could, and that is the other fan favorite location. There are multiple potential options near Citi Field, but all of them come with obstacles. Whether it be environmental issues, competing interest in the land or various legal complications. None of those options though, while probably best for the club in the long run, have any realistic hope of opening before 2030.
I misread your post. I thought you were saying Citi Field location would also need additional acreage for parking, but you specifically say it wouldn't. Sorry. Changing the subject... I haven't measured it out fully yet, but that site near Yankees stadium looks very tight (even including the GAL location) for a soccer stadium.
On the NYCFC forum, we have had so many satellite overlays of this site with existing stadiums. Basically, you would need to get creative, but this site deal was basically sealed back in 2014 with the Bloomberg administration. I would imagine they did advanced preparations and had an idea for a 26k stadium that could fit.
If you include the ramp to parking lot 13 here are the dimensions. If you take that area out I just don't think you can fit a stadium in. 8.8 acres 300ft X 600ft X 800ft X 950ft
For comparison... Mapfre stadium of under 20k is a 650ft X 550ft footprint for just the stadium and no other surrounding area. Audi field footprint is very similar dimensions.
The problem with doing stadium overlays is you have to be sure you have the scale exactly right for both sources.
This is a new Miami design concept i havent seen before, from the Meis Architects website. I really like this one. https://www.meisarchitects.com/miami-concept/7jtl4vdt4ugyba1t36au76o35tm5jd
I like this more than the previous leak. 👀 Sneak peek of our new stadium design for @MiaFreedomPark #bebold #freedomtodream pic.twitter.com/m817yE2CKg— Inter Miami CF (@InterMiamiCF) April 9, 2019
Saw that and wondered who else was in the pic... Any eagle eyes out there? People who recognize celebs or MLS execs or anybody else they thought was flattering and/or wanted to flatter?
I can't help but think that this was predicted by Stanley Kubrick with Leonard Rossiter as Dr. Donald Mlslov and Keir Dullea as Dr David Beckham.
