Sounds like Reyna and Levine believe it’s gonna happen at the GAL site, so bully for them. Here’s hoping it does, and that they go big on stadium size (30k+) and spend big to fill it.
If Nashville is building a 30K stadium and Cincinnati is going with a 26,500 capacity. I hope that it's at least 30k, they sure as hell have the money to go BIG.
Based off LAFC building 22k I really don't think nycfc will build 30k. I would guess they will go with 25k range....but they have to actually build a stadium first. I think we will still be having this conversation 5 years from now.
While they have said very little publicly about a stadium, they have indicated that it will be about 26k. The parking garage/Gal site will be very very tight space wise, so it cant be much bigger than that.
Yes, about the space, are they looking to build over 153rd St.? I assume they can't just shut that road down...
Hard to guess, but since Yankee Stadium already has excess parking for 48k, we dont have to build any! If we build elsewhere, we would probably have to sink a ton of money into a garage which would probably lose money, not to mention require a lot more impossible to find acreage. Yankee Stadium has near perfect transit access, so the percentage of people parking probably lower than many other places would be, especially without metro north access from NJ, Westchester and CT.
There's also the Westchester County crowd that'll come in, I imagine. Figuring out the balance of parking/transit is going to be something Chicago 2.0 is going to need to figure out too.
Hmmm, the guy says the report of it being a "done deal" is unequivocally false. OK, so maybe it isn't a done deal and there are still some details to work out. Maybe there's a decent chance of it happening, but it isn't a "done deal?" It would be nice if that was the case, but we've been down that road before. In other news, New England is still "fixin' to" be "looking into" a "possible" site that might (or might not) be "near" TD Garden.at "some time" in the "near future."
I believe they were limited to a 22k capacity at that location, if there wasn't a limit I believe they would have built in the 25k-30k range. I'm going with an announcement in a few weeks, shovels into the ground a few weeks after announcement and NYCFC opens up their new SSS to start the 2022 season.
What about parking under the stadium? I know that probably would increase the cost, just for a couple thousand cars.
Since Yankee's are part owners, they could use the parking used for the Yankee's or dose the city own the parking?
Don't need new parking in the area since there are already plenty of options in place around the general neighborhood and I'm not sure if the NYPD/NYFD would allow a parking garage under the stadium to begin with.
There are more car parking spaces than there will be seats in the stadium. You can also park in Manhattan and walk across the 145th St or 155th St/McCombs Dam Bridge, which is how I used to get to the stadium from Harlem. Remember that New Yorkers are used to walking. If it is true, I hope they keep the stadium reasonably tight as I'd hate to see another RBA. 20k-22k is enough for day one.
For those of us completely unfamiliar with the area, where on this map is the proposed stadium location?
It's the parcel labeled 153rd st garage, the street, and the plot going up the the metro north line, plus the 153 surface lot.
Most of the parking garages are owned by a quasi-government agency set up during the build of the new yankee stadium. They built far too many spaces and are deeply indebted and basically bankrupt. They would gladly sell the 153 garage for cash and operate the remaining lots at higher capacity. Separately, there are numerous independent lots nearby, plus the garage/elevator site is right next to the mall, which has event parking capacity.
