Carrick has officially been named United's captain. www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/man-utd-news-tour-carrick-13317256
Love MC, but it's gotta go to Herrera. No sense delaying the inevitable. This will surely be Carrick's last season, and he probably won't even play much.
If Herrera is the vice captain as rumored, then it won't matter anyway and he'll get the armband most of the time. After 11yrs of top shelf service for the club and as the one guy who has won it all, Carrick getting the armband in what is probably his last season is the right call.

Carrick lifts the lid on his absence. www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/man-utd-news-michael-carrick-13951839 Very glad to hear he's doing well, and even happier that he seem well enough to be in line for a return soon. Not only his experience (and cool head) are needed in the team, but from a personal point of view, it would have been a pity, if his playing career was ended in that manner.

Great news, Ashur. Thanks for the post. I was wondering what exactly the problem was. With Matic playing virtually every minute of virtually every game he's going to need some rest soon. Fingers crossed that Carrick is ready to step in during the month of December and at least take on FA Cup duty in the second half of the season.
I genuinely can't believe my testimonial raised £1.5m, with every penny going to @_MCFoundation. I'm totally blown away and so grateful for all the support I've received. To everyone who has contributed in any way, however big or small, THANK YOU 🙌🏻 pic.twitter.com/XQX2RqSeGu— Michael Carrick (@carras16) December 22, 2017

I think Carrick will do well in a coaching role. He’s got a tremendous football IQ I could see him working really well with the kids in the academy.

Loved at United, was Carrick under appreciated in English football? www.skysports.com/football/news/15115/11273054/michael-carrick-to-retire-was-manchester-uniteds-midfield-maestro-underappreciated His England career where he recorded only 34 caps tells the whole story there. Especially at the time when England persisted over and over (didn't matter who was in charge) with the Gerrard-Lampard axis which clearly was not compatible and frequently underperformed. A pity, but he's done his job excellently with United and his medal collection is a small token of proof. With the type of rock solid, self reliant backline we had from 2006-07 until SAF retired, he arguably was the perfect type of holding player we could have asked for (and England could have benefitted from).
No doubt about it, Ashur. Back in your Dee1_n_only days at The GoalPosts you might recall a ferocious debate on whether Carrick was "a flop". He was anything but a flop but because he didn't have the star power of Gerrard or Lampard England missed out on having a player who would have helped his national team go further than it did in major tournaments. His vision and passing range were better than both Gerrard and Lampard but he was never the fantastic scorer either were. Those two got in each other's way and England suffered as a result (other factors too, no question) while most serious football observers shook their head in disbelief that Carrick was allowed to rot from a distance. 34 England appearances...disgraceful. Take a bow, Michael.
