Watched hilites on YT. May have missed it in the thread but was Rooney seriously arguing with the ref over a penalty decision in a testimonial game?
Could have more significance to him than just a testimonial if it was his last game for Man U @ OT ... He started with a hat-trick, maybe he wanted to finish with at least one even if it would have been a dubious pen
I'm sure Carrick would have taken any Pen that would have been awarded, at least up until when he scored.
Personally always preferred the Rooney that argued with refs and wound up oppo CBs. When they made him captain and it softened his game he lost a large part of what made him the player he used to be.
don't buy it. making him (c) shouldn't cause him to lose a first touch, a long range shot, pace or the ability to beat a man
When he played on instinct and aggression his game was better (for country too), the alternative of him thinking about his game resulted in most of your list IMO.
This just makes me a little sad and nostalgic.... Last man standing. pic.twitter.com/6ftXPASJlG— Football Tweet ⚽ (@Football__Tweet) July 9, 2017
All the more reason that Jose naming him captain is the right move. Only guy left along with Dave, Valencia and AY to have won the title. And he's the last guy now who won the CL. Him getting the armband is a respect and appreciation thing...
Do you realize that once he leaves, we won't have anyone with CL winning experience?.For a big club like us, that is worrying.
I'm not sure what is worrying tbh: we've got a young team and now it will be up to them to create their own European pedigree and legacy. Before 99 for instance, who on the team had previously won that trophy? No one. Plus they're led by a manager who has been there himself also. The youth of our team excites me, especially if they stay and grow together.
If you want to worry about something, the top scoring United player left is Mata with 36. The main thing it shows is the need for 2-3 world class attackers for a CL winning team.
