Messi’s first touch>>Maradona. Messi is literally superior to Maradona in every possible manner. Maradona relied more on his pace and strength than Messi did. Even after losing his peak level athleticism, Messi is still a GOAT tier dribbler.
Messi"s dribbling>>>Maradona's dribbling But when it comes to first touch,Maradona is slightly better, probably the best in history
btw where did you get messi's dribble stats at 2010 world cup? I check the opta data from bigsoccer forum but it only has duel won stats.
There was a Opta data spreadsheet in circulation back in the day, Messi had the most, 34 successful dribbles in WC10.
Messi won't catch that damn statpadder in CL goals. Just had a quick look since 2013-2014 CL in Matchday 6. 2013-2014: Madrid already clinched the group. Ronaldo plays 90 min against Copenhagen and has 1 goal. 2014-2015: Madrid already clinched the group. Ronaldo plays 90 min against Ludogoretz and has 1 goal with 1 assist. 2015-2016: Madrid already clinched the group. Ronaldo plays 90 min against Malmo FF and has 4 goals with 1 assist. 2016-2017: Madrid is in 2nd place and could actually get to 1st place by beating Dortmund in the final match. Ronaldo plays 90 min against Dortmund and does nothing in a 2-2 draw. 2017-2018: Madrid clinched second place in the group and couldn't move up. Ronaldo plays 90 min against Dortmund and has 1 goal. 2018-2019: Juve is in 1st place but could actually drop to 2nd if they lose. Ronaldo plays 90 minutes against Young Boys and has 1 assist in a 1-2 loss. 2019-2020: Juve already clinched the group. Ronaldo plays 90 min against Leverkusen and has 1 goal. All in all, the man played five meaningless matches in Matchday 6 since 2013-2014 and in those matches registered 8 goals and 2 assists. I'm sure he had a few more earlier in his career.
why not? if messi is clutch like last season,he will score like 6-7 goals in ko round and if other teams know how to defend against ronaldo's header,he will finish. messi has more years left to play at ucl,he will reach the top soon
I don't think many people realize just how great Messi is. And that's ok. Us Barca fans see him in every match and boy are we glad we have him!
699 career goals. Good goal scorer is lucky to score 5 goals outside of the box in a season, last 4/5 goals:
if a player scores one of these goals,it will be their career's best highlight. Messi makes it so easy, every week
In this Decade: Most Goals: #Messi Most Assist: #Messi Most chances created: #Messi Most dribbles: #Messi Most free kicks: #Messi Most Goals from outside: #Messi Most Ballon d'Ors: #Messi Most Golden Boots: #Messi Most FIFA Best Awards: #Messi
Which is the best dribbling season of Messi? I think it probably is 2007-2008 season or 2010-2011. Remember when he had 18 successful dribbles in one game vs Huelva during 2007-2008 season. And messi is the very best dribbler even in his younger days. Remember the match agains Osasuna in 2005 when he completed 11 dribbles,at 17 years old. Not even Maradona was as good as Messi. No wonder Ronaldinho, even at his peak, once said he is not even the best player at Barca,it is Messi.
Statistically it's 14-15, and even though 10-11 is close and he scored a Goal of the Century in both, I would say Messi had less space and time in 14-15. Also he's currently on pace of beating even 14-15 depending how far we go in cl. Messi's successful dribbles in Liga and CL 09-10 201 10-11 264 11-12 222 12-13 143 13-14 168 14-15 267 15-16 151 16-17 154 17-18 222 18-19 169 19-20 projected 244-275
that is brillant play from messi and i dont think anyone can do that. But lets be honest here, he had a quite average game. Probably he just returned from vacation.
Stats could never really tell Messi true contribution. For intense, he had no goal or assist in 2015 CL final but all goal started from his pass, dribbles and shot .
Yeah and I think he dribbled more players than other Barca players combined and the whole Juventus team. Iniesta winning the MoM was kind of a joke, and just shows how Messi opposite Uefa was, and actually has been these years.
14-15 CL Final Successful Dribbles 10 Messi 7 Juventus 4 Barcelona 10-11 CL Final Successful Dribbles 10 Messi 6 Manchester United 3 Barcelona
Yea, they intentionally made somebody else wins the individual awards to make it look more competitive. If its really based on individual stats, he'd won it everytime.
Iniesta played very well, Messi was better that match though. He completed 10 dribbles, less than both team combined just 1 (11)
Its starting to looks like Argentina team which basically frontloaded... can score goals but would conceided as many or more. Valverde never looks like a winner even when we win.
