    That’s so true !!

All the genius moments yet he’ll be forever known for that incident when he was a youngster ..

Many in here didn’t even appreciate him which is equally as sad

The thing about that moment was that Motta went hands to the face which was an automatic booking but the referee De Bleekere gave Motta a straight red. Mourinho often brought it up, especially during his “porque” rant.
But what no one remembers was that Motta was already on a yellow card so even if De Bleekere had only booked Motta he would have been gone anyway, irregardless of the peek-a-boo stuff.

On a side note, specially in Brazil, with the stricter rule of not leading with your elbow on a 50/50 jump situation, I've seen a whole lot more players fake getting elbowed in the face if they feel the other player even just touched him with a forearm above the shoulder.

Leo Messi: "El Barcelona es mi casa, no quiero irme pero quiero un proyecto ganador"

(Neymar) No sé.

Messi speaking out is a pretty big thing. He rarely does and when he does it's typically to Argentina media. As much as he tries to be political, seems like he is definitely sending the club a message with the whole Neymar deal. He is not happy about it as much as he says he knows it was complicated.

And the fact that he basically leaked his contract clause about getting out for free makes you wonder what's going to happen next season. If Messi were to leave before retiring, I could see him going to Miami as these rumors are saying about Beckham wanting him and Suarez there. I'd be surprised if he went to another club to win another CL. Man City would be the only place he'd go and I am not sure Pep would want him there. Winning a league title in another league would be pointless.

It's definitely a message that he is not all that happy. I know he wanted Neymar to come, but to want it at the expense of putting the club in bigger financial risk is not cool IMO.

I wouldn't hold that against him, his focus is on the sporting level.
    finances are the boards responsibility.

Right. But when he says he doesn't know if they did everything to get Neymar, those are some very well measured words. I think it's pretty clear PSG wanted a lot for Neymar. More than the club could pay/trade for.

It's interesting that he mentioned Dembele and his professionalism. Perhaps it's true that he was the only missing portion for the deal to happen. If so, he better really shape up because it's going to be Hell for him if he doesn't.

Well he was twice as good as the next one last season so of course there's a chance. The problem is that he needs to be twice as good nowadays to even have a chance.

Liverpool’s VVD is supposedly the 1:3 favourite with Messi second fave at 3:1 ... cant recall what position Cronaldo was but his odds were 33:1

Again, when rating Messi, everybody will use a quardruple standard. Any forward that hit 40 goals in European top 3 league would be considered WPOTY contender. Messi can hit 50, win domestic double but he wont be in top 5 if he's not in CL semifinal at very least.

Those are the bookies odds which are normally far more accurate than any online polls in my experience

Messi with his 6th FIFA Player of the Year award.

6 first place finishes, and 6 second place finishes.

Good for him. This was the one he was most likely to win to be honest. He should get the Balon d'Or , but that has the tendency to follow the CL winners (Van Dijk).

Is this the same as the Ballon d'Or with a new name and new time frame, or are there now 3 separate awards for the same thing (just on slightly different calendar cycles)??

However, Ballon D’Or is voted by only journalists.

    In this FIFA vote:

    FIFA #TheBest assigned
    25% players voting
    25% coaches voting
    25% fans voting
    25% journalists voting

    Messi won players, coaches, fans.

    Van Dijk won journalists.

So VVd might still be the Ballon D’Or favorite.

On the other hand, whomever wins this award usually gets the Ballon D’Or as well.
