I felt Modric was overrated at the world cup. Croatia had several key players and he was def one of them but he was not head and shoulders above them.

He played a similar position against Croatia in the World Cup, here he is false deep lying centrebacking against Rakitic.

I think I read that this was Cristiano's 11th red card of his career: 4 with Man Utd, 6 with LPB and his first with Juve.

I know Messi was sent off in his international debut with Argentina (v Hungary?) but how many more does he have?

He also has escaped another dozen reds because he played for Refdrid.

That's the only one, no reds for Barcelona.

CR is most competitive footballer today, he's not only competing with Messi but also with Ramos.

Most players get away with quite a bit . He has gotten caught mor than once with some soft kick or push and gotten red cards. Suarez IMO and Costa get away with more.

That reminds me of that recent clip showing Ozil walking onto the training pitch .... he spits out his chewy and kicks it back up into his mouth :)

Comments on Messi’s performance from tonight (although a little exaggerated, but gives an idea of what sort of performance he gave today):

“I'm sorry but can we talk about Lionel Messi please?

Tonight's performance at Wembley was probably the greatest individual display we've ever seen. Ran the show from minute one and orchestrated everything.”

    ————

“The day Messi retires, the ball will cry for him.....a long, long weeping wail and cry.”

    ———

“You may as well cancel football when Lionel Messi retires. It doesn't get any better than him.”

    ———

“Today, Messi was Xavi, Pirlo, Iniesta, Zidane — plus Platini, Zico, Maradona — plus Ronaldo Fenomeno, Pele, Di Stefano — and better than all of them.”

I wonder why he was so motivated for last nights match !?!

It was the best I've seen him play for years .... he was even closing them down and putting his foot in ..

He had time and space. It makes a difference.

He did get scared at the end Tottenham were going to tie the game as Barca lost control of the match so he came back to defend a bit.
