Shaw fears his United career may be over... www.bleacherreport.com/articles/2740600-luke-shaw-reportedly-worried-his-manchester-united-career-is-effectively-over Perhaps, the best hope for him at this point might be to go out on loan somewhere, as soon as January to a club where he may have a chance at playing regularly.
Loan him till the summer, get someone in January as a first choicer, and if Shaw does well and looks hungry (not in the way he does now) then sell Blind instead.
Still trying to figure out why Jose played him at all yesterday. Only getting 5 min against a Swansea second team has got to be soul crushing for Shaw. He would have been better off not playing all together.
Good one! I'd like to seen Shaw get 15-20 minutes, but 5 minutes was fine. Given where his head must be right now an easy 5 minutes isn't an insult at all. We'll have some CL dead rubber matches soon, giving young Luke a chance at a full 90. And if that doesn't work out, a loan in the second half of the season might be the best option to pursue and we'll see where things are with him in June.
5 minutes is an utterly pointless exercise. give it to a kid to make his debut or just leave the player being subbed on the field
Shaw was just being honest in his comments about Pochettino, according to Jose. www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/11100533/man-uniteds-jose-mourinho-full-of-praise-for-luke-shaws-comments-on-mauricio-pochettino
On the subject of Shaw, Jose has said that he is working for an opportunity and sooner or later, it will come. He also mentioned that he will be in the squad tomorrow, for sure but whether he starts or not, he can not answer. Would still be surprised if he started tomorrow as Jose clearly seem to trust Blind more, especially in that type of game. If I had to guess, his opportunity, all things being equal (ie no injuries or suspensions), will come in the Carabao Cup game vs Bristol. But still, unless he puts in a monster performance then, smart money is still on this thread being closed sometime in January for the end of Shaw's rocky story at United. Would be a (welcome?) surprise if it weren't the case at this juncture...
Is there any doubt he will eventually? You never know obviously, but everything will be lined up for him to succeed: he'll be well removed from his injury and fully recovered. Under Poch, he'll be playing under a manager who completely believes in him (unlike his last 2 managers). And he'll just be away from his United nightmare. And we'll be able to add him to the list of gems Jose has let slip thru his fingers over the years.
Yes there is doubt. Of course there is. What about his play makes him such a sure thing to succeed? He's either been injured or out if form more seasons than he's been good. He's young but he has enough of a track record to know what to expect. He had 1-2 good seasons with Southampton and zero since then. People look at his run of 7-8 games before his injury when he was good and think that's his norm. Did it occur to anyone that those games might have been the outlier where he was producing above his mean?
Shaw had an excellent season at Soton prior to his move as well. Can he actually be finished or never recover his pre injury form? Of course, it could happen. In my opinion however, I believe strongly that he'll blossom again once he will have left United, and in a new environment. Shaw is a player, despite his best efforts to grin and bear it, has to be very low, mentally wise, as he's constantly been browbeaten or berated one way or another by his managers since he got to the club (or so it seems at least). Get him back with a manager like Poch, who believes in him and who probably will be more supportive than Van Gaal or Jose were (not that it's wrong, mind you but that approach does not work with everyone), and there is little doubt for me that will show in a much improved play ultimately. Shaw's talent, at least before he got hurt, was absolutely legit. And he's still very young and nowhere near his peak as well in theory. And despite his injury, should be nowhere near done as a player...
Could he regain form and fulfil his potential? Sure. But there are tons of red flags. 1. Extensive injury history 2. Fitness issues 3. Mentally weak? 4. Reliant on speed 4 is especially important because players that are reliant on speed usually see their form fall off a cliff earlier than other players. So he's 22, hasn't played consistently for 2 years, and will probably drop off in his last 20s. If he's going to live up to the hype, he better do it soon.
And that's precisely why I've mentioned that the environment he will land in is crucial at this point. And if it's Tottenham, under Pochettino, it's arguably ideal for him. I've already mentioned the Poch factor, but at Tottenham, he will not be under pressure to deliver right away (with Davies there as well), but he'll get his chances and not be completely shunned the way he's been by Jose. And he still can learn and grow into his game: he certainly was nowhere near the finished article here, even at his best and it's his (along with his coaches) responsibility to help him grow and improve as a player. At 22, he's still has time on his side.
Young Luke would be under a ton of pressure were he to go to Tottenham. I'm not sure what the right move is for his career, but we can be very sure he'd be under the hot lights playing for one of the three massive clubs in London.
Shaw actually may have a chance of not playing, but perhaps even starting as well. No Blind or Rojo apparently in the squad for the Moscow game today and it stands to reason that AY could be rested. Leaving potentially Darmian, unless Jose plans on using him on the right. In theory, at least, looks as good a chance for Shaw to make his first start in over 6mos, I believe.
it's about time. Even though he relied on his speed, his technical ability on the ball is very good and his delivery is very good. I hope he starts and has a good game, like an assist, and a couple of shots. That would make him ahead of Blind.
Something I did not take into account this morning and could still be a factor in Shaw's chances. Both Blind and Miki could still make the squad today: they live near and at the Lowry respectively, so, as it often happens, it would explain why they weren't seen arriving with the rest of the team. He'll be in the 18 today, as Jose mentioned, but beyond that, TBD I suppose. There are rumblings though that Shaw is starting...
Finally stepped up as he was supposed to. Next challenge will be to confirm this next time he gets to play (which should not be too long, I expect). Could save the club a nice chunk of change that can go towards a player in a different position.
He gets the nod against Bournemouth and Bristol City in the Cup game. All he needs now is confidence and match fitness.
He was very good yesterday. Hopefully he builds on it and avoids injury. Having Young as our only serviceable LB is a problem.
As long as Jose keeps to his word in regards to Shaw and starts giving him more chances, that is all we can ask for. Certainly way too early to turn over the LB spot to him: as mentioned, he's got to earn it and prove his worth. If he can put in displays like he did yesterday in the coming month, if nothing else, it could open up options for Jose as far as what to do in the market (if he's going to spend in January).
