Luke Shaw appears good to go for the upcoming tour. www.espnfc.us/manchester-united/story/3153640/luke-shaw-will-make-us-trip-for-man-utd-preseason-tour-sources Make or break season for Shaw and his United career. Here's hoping that he can get his career back on track once and for all.
Hope you have a good one, @LukeShaw23! 🎁 pic.twitter.com/xKmAaNQuOQ— Manchester United (@ManUtd) July 12, 2017
Shaw will get another chance with Jose this coming season. www.espn.co.uk/football/manchester-united/story/3156737/man-uniteds-luke-shaw-to-get-second-chance-with-jose-mourinho-sources It's sure to be his last one if he can't come up with the goods. He does deserves some good fortune and hopefully, this will be the season when he really turns it around in his United career.
Phil Neville critical of Luke Shaw's play vs Burton Albion. www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/man-utd-news-luke-shaw-13652002 PNev does have a point and even though I will give him the benefit of the doubt for now, I felt that Shaw's lax play was disappointing (especially in his current situation). Neville used the example of Herrera who put in a committed display, I saw it particularly in McTominay as well. Different circumstances than Shaw, but this is a guy eager to step up to the first team and prove himself to Jose and his play reflected that, unlike Shaw. We'll see how things progress for him, but he needs to pick it up, otherwise he'll be done at the club before long.
That's ridiculous, he was fine. He made several good runs forward and barely had any tackles to make.
Given the circumstances of the game alone, coupled with the fact that he's already had a couple of full games under his belt with the U23s, I expected him to show more. I've been a supporter of his and I certainly haven't turned on him yet. The point remains, as Nev mentioned, for a guy in his situation, who has to really win Jose over, I would have liked to see more effort. Hopefully, he's just building up to it.
Why would anyone go flying into tackles up 3-0 and coming off a broken leg and subsequent injuries? He needs a run of 5-6 games at this level to get his feet back under him. Nothing to lose by giving him that time to shake the rust.
I'm not even referring to tackles or doing anything to put himself in harms way: that's your mistaken assumption. The reason I pointed McTominay for instance, is not because he was trying to hit everything that moved, but he bust a gut making runs, putting himself in position and constantly trying to get himself involved. In regards to Shaw, I would have liked to see him bomb up and down the touchline for most of the 45mins. Whether he had to do it or not because the result was assured, is really irrelevant. We all know that it's things such as these (hard work, commitment) that impress Jose and Shaw clearly has some way to go on that score. I clearly said that being his first senior game back, I'm not passing a final/ultimate judgment yet, but on the back of this game alone, I would have liked to see more.
He was thrown in as a wing-back with Blind the central defender on his side and Martial making FIFA runs ahead of him. What was he supposed to do?
First game back after a long layoff...after a catastrophic injury. Luke may be done as a professional footballer, but we just don't know that yet.
I recall after Rashford came off and Martial moved further inside, the whole left flank was essentially Shaw's and as the LWB especially, he really should have done more in terms of energy and effort. Hopefully, that will come on his next appearance.
We have no idea what his instructions were. Considering Jose was on his touchline, if he wanted him to make more runs I'm sure he would have told him.
for all the talk of shaw's potential, i have yet to see anything remotely elite in his locker besides pace and strength. his ball skills are still suspect, and his positional awareness non-existent. i honestly think we can do better.
We could, if those better players wanted out. Like Alaba, Sandro, etc. But until then, may as well see out his contract or give him that time. He was very good before the leg break. Theres something to look forward to for now.
I'm still pulling for him, despite what it may look like in my recent posts. At the same time, I feel that from Jose's perspective this season is make or break for him, in terms of showing whether he has a long term future with United. Yesterday was his first game back at senior level, so we should see more of him in the coming weeks and hopefully by the end of this season, he will look to be well on his way to being the player he was pre leg break.
Shaw is enthusiastic and physically gifted. He is also the victim of a long term injury in the middle of his development. We could bail on him but it makes sense to see if he can develop. He could be an asset if he learns a few key lessons.
Shaw still has work to do - Mourinho www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/manchester-united-news-luke-shaw-jose-mourinho-a7962221.html
...and Luke gets a new contract. Completely undeserved but I guess we couldn't let him walk for free after overpaying for him.
They're picking up the one year option on him. It's the club (and Jose) extending some type of confidence towards Shaw, which hopefully will give him the boost to get his career back on track. If he fails to do so, it will be all on him at this point.
Disappointing if true. http://www.manchestereveningnews.co...sfer-news/man-utd-transfer-news-live-13765344 10:16 Bad news for Shaw Damning verdict by many fans on Shaw’s performance yesterday. watched the u23 game this morning & I must say I was shocked with @LukeShaw23 performance today He looked like a player who was overweight unfit & didn't care walked around & didn't bust a gut to get back on defence So much talent such poor attitude Really disappointed with him— Gee United (@gigounited) October 15, 2017
