As expected, this looks very much a rehash of the Miki and Martial situations. Whether it's Jose just flexing his muscles, because he wants and can with those guys, or him legitimitely trying to mould them into the players he wants, the ball is in Shaw's court. He will get his chance very soon I imagine and he just needs to seize upon it. Like Miki and Martial before him, he's a player, who in form, can be a difference maker for us and really is needed. Guys like Darmian or Blind can do a job at LB, whereas Shaw has the ability and talent to do so much more.
I get why he is not making the bench - the other options in Darmian, Blind and Rojo can cover multiple positions when on the bench. But it is because he is a specialist LB he has a greater ceiling than the other guys. Hope Mou gives him some games to play himself back into form as his last few performances were poor defensively.
The next 2-3gms, at the very least, would be the perfect opportunity to get him some much needed minutes and games, in order to get him back match fit for the remainder of the season. With the hope that he actually improves on his defensive game in the meantime. Because, as mentioned above, he's definitely a guy who provides a whole other dimension to the team when he's on. In theory at least, a left flank of Shaw and Martial both on song, is still a fantastic prospect.
We mortals can only speculate, but young Luke's situation has the look and feel of Jose bringing him around mentally and physically. I agree with sofa's observation that Shaw's ceiling is greater. Another way to look at the situation is that we're doing very well defensively these days. And when something aint broke you don't fix it. He'll come back when circumstances require or allow it and who knows when that will be.
As mentioned previously, Jose's comments about Shaw regarding his future with the club have been pretty unequivocal and it's obvious he rates and hods him in high esteem. Hopefully, that will put an end to all the speculation as to what will happen with him. It takes time to fully recover from a broken leg.
When you are not in the squad and there are question marks over your training and fitness, you can probably do without the publicity from this wembley changing room vid / pic (from Herrera celebration vid);
Gotta feel for the guy - misses selection for the squad then takes abuse on social media. At least he didnt do a Terry and put his kit on to celebrate. Hopefully missing out will make him more hungry to show whatever he is not showing Mou in training
Jesus Christ. He ate a sandwich. What a crime. You have to wonder how bad his attitude and/or actual performances are in training. Because Jose is not blind. He can't sit there and think that Rojo is a real LB. I still don't understand why Blind isn't getting a look in there over Rojo, but whatever. Even a chubby slow Luke Shaw has to be better than the shit out there yesterday. I personally think he's gone. His treatment seems to be a little bit more severe than Martial or Mkhi got.
Or Depay. Mou has to show in his career now that he is willing to take bigger risks on players and change it up a bit.
Don't think Mourinho has ever forgiven Luke Shaw, a Chelsea fan, for asking too much in wages to sign for him whilst he was Manager at Chelsea. Let it go Maureen, and get Shaw in the team, asap, you know it makes sense.
I hope we find a way for him to stay. I wonder how significantly Jose's treatment of him depresses his transfer value if he indeed doesn't make it here. He is still a young English player and should generate a big fee, but getting 30 mill back seems tough.
The only way for him to not have his transfer fee devalued is to play and be successful. But if he were playing and being successful, he wouldn't be sold. That's the way it is for all end destination type clubs. It's incredibly unusual a club like us will turn a profit on a player, short of them being an academy prospect.
Jose has said today in his press conference that Shaw will be in the 18 tomorrow. he's mentioned how he's been working hard and with dedication, on top of how he's improved physically. Sounds eerily like the things he praised both Miki and Martial when they found their way back into the team.
Not a bad display from Shaw today, considering he hasn't played in forever. What he needs is a consistent run of games (even if it's just for one game a week for the time being), as that will only help his confidence. Bournemouth seem to go in hard on him today. Expected I guess, even if it's kind of bush for my taste. Ought to toughen him up some more though. Nice to see him back.
