This kid could do better in a better team. IMO. A team with a proper finisher. Both the cross and the low ball that went slightly wide were begging for a fox-in-the-box type to poach them.
Not sure if this is typical American soccer fan insecurity, but are McKennie's teammates shy about passing to him in traffic? Does he lack the technical skill in lose those types of balls? I've not watched him enough.
Vs Wolfsburg 3 shots (1 blocked, 2 off target) 77% passing (54/70) 2 key passes ( 1 assist) 3 dribble (2 successful. Including the big run that led to the assist) 5 headers won 2 tackles 1 clearance Really good 2nd half for McKennie.
If Chelsea are interested in Americans, then Wes McKennie is easily an upgrade over Jorgino. (Of course so is Kante), and arguably Kovacic as well. Great googly moogly this kid is good. Can't believe we have both him and Adams, both of whom have yet to enter their primes.
Weston was terrific in the second half. He’s really good at several positions. If he gets settled into one spot, I think he can be great.
We should really dominate the middle of the pitch with these two. Then we have Pulisic, Weah, and Sargeant. The core of our team for the next decade—unless, of course, even better players come along.
I'd like to see McKennie play this well more consistently throughout the latter half of this season. If he does that, there will be plenty of bids for him in the summer, and I'd have confidence that he'd have a shot at good minutes if he moves to a club further up the ladder.
The only thing better than this Weston McKennie run & cross? That Koen Casteels save 👀#S04WOB pic.twitter.com/v8Ro63SN2b— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) January 20, 2019
The assist: It's Caligiuri again! His second of the game gives Schalke a 2-1 lead after fantastic work from McKennie, who gets the assist. 🇺🇸 #S04WOB pic.twitter.com/WMYG29kAT4— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) January 20, 2019
What role was he playing this game? He seemed to be further up the field and less box to box. Also he seemed to pop up on the wings often. [emoji848]
I think he’s fine being shifted around the midfield as long as it’s not the backline or CF. The fact that he’s so versatile makes him a squad player on most teams in the top 4 leagues.
To the contrary, Spector’s versatility allowed him to extend his career in Europe longer than I would have suspected.
