More that you think he hasn’t been great relative to the historic USMNT pool. Crazy.

If I’m picking an all-time best XI, I start with Jones.

That's enough discussion of Jones and the USMNT. Please take national team discussions to the US Men's forum. Thank you.

Caligiuri has been our best player of this first half followed by Sane and Bentelab. I would rank Weston in the 2nd tier along with Harit and Stambouli. Rudy and Mascarell have been major disappointments.

    I wo
I would disagree with you. I think Caligiuri has been very poor. He is a big part of the reason why Schalke can't retain possession. Sane has been good. Bentaleb has been really good.

As for Wes, he had the most important goal of the season for schalke in the Champions league. Created another important goal in the other champions league game.

Is he the only yank on the list?

Or perhaps because he's already a regular on a CL team, unlike many of the players on that list.

Yep. Vancouver/Ghanian-Canuk Alphie Davies is only other NA I could see. Very surprised not to see Pierie there, tbh.

This is random and probably just something to draw in a few punters, but he's 4/1 for a Liverpool. I haven't heard his name anywhere else among Liverpool sources. He could fit, but it might be tough for him to get minutes. Whatever. Not worth analyzing, really.

Arsenal just let Aaron Ramsey walk to Juve for free because they don't want to play with an 8, so I'm going to drop their odds to sign Weston to about 100/1.

Mike McGrath, the journalist who had the first scoop of Zack Steffen to Manchester City 2 weeks before anyone else, is reporting that Liverpool are looking at bidding £20 million.

The guy works for the Sun, so everyone's first response is going to be to tell him he's full of it, but that's exactly what happened when he was the first one to report on Steffen to Man City. I get why people don't like the Sun, but he's got credibility to his name and on his resume.

Seems to me like he needs to change his employer if he wants to be taken more seriously, because a lot of his "exclusives" have had a lot of weight to them.

Liverpool fan here. Wynaldum has been absolutely amazing this season, vastly improving right out of the blue. Fabinho is fantastic and has really improved our squad. We still have a lot of faith and investment in Naby Keita, he’s had injuries and Wynaldum’s form has kept him out. Plus Henderson.

Then you have Curtis Jones possibly coming through. And Milner. That’s a stack of players to break through and we only play 3 in midfield which sometimes includes Shaqiri or more randomly Lallana.

I think McKennie's floor rn is a squad player on a team that challenges consistently for the Champions League. His energy, versatility, and soccer IQ just make him an incredible valuable asset to be able to put on the bench or in any starting lineup. He has had some bad games, but for the most part he brings something to the team every game he's in.

Ironically I don't know if his ceiling is much higher than his floor though. In his defense Schalke did have quite a bit of turnover this year, which people seem to underrate here as being a compelling reason for poor form. Ideally I'd like to see him have at least another year and a half with Tedesco before he even considered moving anywhere else. Sort of similar to how Adams stayed with NYRB. Let him make that next step up and become a leader in the team.

All fair. I could see Lallana leaving though - he's 30 and not playing, and like you said, Wijnaldum's improvement came out of nowhere and he's 28. Is that sustainable? Same question for Milner, legend though he is.

McKennie is 20 with nearly 50 appearances at Schalke, and his endless stamina seems like it would fit really well into Klopp's system. If that £20 million figure is true, then it's basically a no-brainer for Liverpool. They get younger and they get midfield depth for a relative drop in the bucket, financially.

I'm not saying he would start, but he'd probably be high in the rotation.

Keita was previously unbelievable at his previous stop and arguably one of the best 3-5 in the world at the position for a season so I find it likely that he will break through any injury-related slumps.
